They must be smarter than strippers

There was an extensive thread on exactly this subject a day or two ago.  One of the best posts pointed out that, even in countries where providing is legal, there is a substantial social stigma.  So legalization won't solve all the problems we face.

Actually I think its great. I have seen a lot of board participation, here and on other boards, from the SO's of companions. Actually I wrote a article recently about companions and their dating/personal life and was deeply touched when I received an email from a husband of a provider where he expressed his experiences. I just find it interesting and have not noticed this as much in the past.

Think about how many thousands of providers there are in the US. We see movies, books, TV shows that delve into the lives of escorts. We rarely here about the men in their lives.

One guy I that I met that was in a relationship with a provider that I know suggested that it would be great to have a support group. Hmmm.....I am thinking POP, Partners of Providers.

This is a very interesting post, I am a former provider who actually met my husband while I was an escort. I would love to find out more about this.

I can only speak for myself, and I tend to speak A LOT!

The gentlemen I see in my civvie life know that I am a provider.  I have a few that I date and I've been dating them much longer than I have been providing.  They are both supportive and a little jealous.  Jealous because if I get a call from "you", and then they get bumped off the schedule. And my schedule is already limited which can sometimes cause an issue.  But they also have a choice to continue to see me or not.

Examples:  One is younger, 28, and thinks it's the hottest thing ever that I am a provider.  One is married, and doesn't like me being a provider but what can he say?  And the third is a swinger, and he treats my providing more like a swinging experience, only he doesn't get to be there!  LOL

All have stuck with me and no one talks about leaving....so I must be doing something right!

I would guess that not everyone is as open in their civvie lives as I am, each woman has her own comfort level.  I would never tell a new civvie guy about my providing, that is something that comes with trust and time. I would just let him think that I am a very busy person.

Come on in, the water is warm.  Sometimes warm with pee, but that's part of the fun.

Partners of Providers sounds like square dancing.  I like it!

There are more SO on this board than many realize. I have been real public about my relationship with my wife who is a provider. Many guys have PMed me about there relationship with a provider. A few times using there SO handle. They don't post about it on this board as they have seen some of the attacks I and others have had to deal with using there wifes job as a weapon against them.

The media puts us in a even worse light on the SO's of providers then it does providers themselves and providers aren't often shown in a good light. The only SO of sex workers on TV and movies are deadbeats, abusers, drug dealers, and pimps, all of them using there wife. I am public with my relationship on this board to put out the other side of the coin out there.

While being SO of a provider has its unique challenges, form a legal point of view such a support group is not such a good idea. Many states have anti-pandering laws that target the SO of providers with harsher penalties normal pandering laws. Most pandering laws are written if you encourage, profit from, or aid prostitution in any way you break them. My home sate is one of them with the harsher laws for SO's of providers then normal panderers. Also in most states pandering is a felony so LE can be more proactive in there case against the SO of providers then they can be of the providers themselves. A SO's of providers support group would set the SO's of providers up to take a trip to prison for about 5 years, at lease in my state.

There is a need for such a group but it can't happen in the US.

I am personally acquainted with two providers -- each about 30 -- who are married to former clients in their 60s.  I guess there's still hope for me!

We are all just lovemakers in the eyes of God. That keeps me warm on these cold winter days.

I believe that a lot of the challenge of this hobby comes from the stigma associated with it, and the secrecy that forces upon most of us. If more providers are able to semi-publicly integrate this with the rest of their lives, that seems to indicate the stigma is decreasing (and I do believe that is true), which is nothing but good.

Not saying everything is coming up roses, but now that sodomy is no longer a crime in Alabama, maybe there will be a day when p4p between two consenting adults is decriminalized and accepted, too.

Or about I just being too optimistic?

Where are the 'my significant other is a cashier at Piggly Wiggly' posts?

Maybe we're just bragging.  Maybe this board is an outlet for our occasional puzzlement about women in general.  Maybe the stigma associated with prostitution makes this site a welcome refuge for anyone associated.  Maybe we're tired of reading bullshit from guys who think they know what it's like from the women's perspective.  Or maybe we're actually 12-year old boys whose experience only extends to French-kissing their grandmother's cat and have discovered that the porn filters our parents installed don't filter this site.
