Mainstream?

I have been at this for over 18 years and one thing that
has remained constant is that girls in this line of business
always seem to love tatoos. Over the last 8-10 years, body
piercings have become almost as popular. What is the reason
for this? Is it just part of the "fast lane" lifestyle, like
bikers and rock musicians, or is it something else?

In the past, a lot of pimps would "put their brand" on a girl, but now it seems like even the girls without pimps (the majority?) are "marked up".

I for one, have always found this to make a girl less attractive.
For me, there is nothing better than fresh, clean, smooth, unmarked skin. I have to believe that girls without the tatoos
and piercings would do better in this line of work.

Does anyone else have thoughts on this?

Well, it is a way to express yourself, some people find it to be a form of art, some people flat out have issues, and some ( I have a friend that did this), do it just because. She had A HUGE tatoo done on her back, for no reason what's so ever. Go figure.

The piercing is just hip right now, ( fast lane ) the way you put it, so a lot of gilrs are doing it. It is considered sexy.

Tattoos, scarification, and piercing are symbols of individualism. An unmarked body is considered a natural body, thus uncivilized. So in a sense, tattoos are a designation of being civilized.

Tattoos may also be a designation of self. A way to tell the world what or who they are. Providers in my experience tend to be independent people, not ones that are afraid to live outside the standard constraints of society. To be an individual, if you will. So often these are only an extension of self or a declaration of their independence.

OR.... Maybe they just thought tattoos and piercing were cool.

Providing is a pretty alternative career choice, so it seems likely to attract less-than-mainstream women - maybe more likely to get into body art, etc. Same with strippers, I suppose.

I dunno about attracting less than mainstream women. I worked at a high profile job in a bank for seven years before tackling this profession. At the time I was hired I had one tattoo on my shoulder and acquired a belly piercing during my employment. It is simply a matter of choice and some men find it extremely attractive, especially belly button rings. And it is your choice to not see ladies that do not appeal to you for whatever reason, short hair, long hair, blonde, redheaded, brunette, top heavy or slight of build. I know many ladies in this profession have university or college degrees and also work or have worked in 'mainstream' jobs. It is a sign of the times, not always your background in this life. Just my 2 cents, Hugs, Dana

I mean working in the corporate world, I've seen way more piercings and tattoos than in this business, comparing the ladies I do know personally.
But then, I'm in CA and almost every lady in the office had at least a small tattoo either on the ankle, hip, shoulder, etc. and SO many of the girls had their belly buttons and tongues pierced, regardless of age, education, etc.
So, it's merely the fashion. Again, I'm in California, where it's more common than anything - just look at all the teenagers - they're all pierced; even the 13 yr old that lives next door.

And then I got blown away by Shaye Lynn.  Before I met her, I probably would not have given any woman with multiple tattoos any serious consideration.  But what I learned is that no matter how open-minded or adventurous I may consider myself, there is always room for improvement in the narrow hallway of my brain.

The old adage "don't judge a book by its cover" was never truer than my first encounter with Shaye.  Although she has tattoos too numerous to count and piercings in all of the strategic places, these adornments don't define her.  They are merely parts of the sum total of an incredible lady.  From the first time I saw her, I was so immersed in the awesome experience of her that I barely noticed the tats and to this day they bear very little impact upon our sessions.  To be honest, when I look at her now, I don't even see the ink.

As for ladies without the tats and piercings doing better, you may be right.  But then again, as my Mother used to say when I was a child and she would try to get me to eat my vegetables, "How do you know you won't like it if you don't try it?"

That I had done 10 years before I entered into escorting. (I'm 28 now)  Sometimes people don't cosider how something will look years down the road. In my case I thought about what I wanted and where to place it so it was easily hidden for nearly a year before I went and had it done.

If I get any comments on my tattoo, they are always positive ones about how small & delicate it is.  People are also more respectful of my decision when I explain that it has religious meaning to me.  I've had friends who have known me for years and they still don't know I have one.

As far as piercings go...earlobes are enough for me at this point, though I have started to consider a clit piercing. Of course, something that drastic will take me about 5 years of consideration!

I find that tatoos have become so much more mainstream and popular here in the United States vs. in Europe and the Far East; where they might have had their origins but remain uncommon.

I'm certain that many who get a "stylish" tattoo now will regret that and end up paying much money and blood for removal; while those that get personally significant ones will be proud of their body art for the rest of their lives.

It's odd that in Japan those with "Irezumi" (or tattoo paintings) are typically from the underworld and most public baths have prominent signs stating that nobody with a tattoo may enter. In Japan a yakuza might rip open his shirt to expose his tattoo - that would be the equivalent here of someone drawing a weapon. Come to think of it, most courtesans don't have any tattoos in Japan.

I am brand *spanking* ( wa ha ) new to the world of being a provider.. but heres my dig.
When I was sixteen I was a total punk rock angsty tortured artist.. many of you 30 somethings surely remember The Damned Rollins and Black Flag.. ( shiverss rollins gasp! )
I pierced and inked for expression. This long before pop stars showed up with rocks in their noses and lips.
I went to college did the bachelors went to corporate america and worked for the government. Mind you still pierced and inked. I simply wore a teenie tiny little clear spacer.
I have recently jumped to working living and functioning as an artist inked more. It is expressionism to me. I only have two. One the Clan Symbol for my Irish Heritage the other a personal fetish interest.  My nose will always be pierced.
Being in an alternative lifestyle where you only answer to yourself and you are expressing not only your sensuality but inner interests..it is a little more open for body adornment.
I dont have to wake up Monday to meet with the security council on the programs for the Am-Ram phoenix missiles platform for air to ground... i can walk around my house in my sponge bob underwear and watch space ghost .. while twirling my nose ring.. glamorous huh.. lol

Having taught many college-aged men and women over the past eight years, I can tell you that the number of piercings and tatoos on both sexes has steadily risen over that time. Thus, part of the reason is a cultural change in those under 30.

"Ka mana wana lei u!"  Just looked at your site and broke out laughing at that.  Then I looked at your photos and the grin from laughter turned into a different type of grin!  Very nice site.  And I agree with your assessment about ink & piercings.  Just a matter of choice and it most certainly wouldn't deter me from seeing you if I lived on your part of the continent.

Out that most people, in general, have tattoos, piercings or both? Well, certainly in California..
