Just a warning for those, like me, who previously often used text messages to communicate with providers - on assumption that this communication did not show up in any detailed billing statements - Verizon recently (June) added a "feature" to their online billing (which they inform me is mandatory) that allows anyone with access to the online account to see a detailed list of the date, time, and number of both the sender and recipient of each text messsage.  Another reason to use an anonymous prepaid cel phone.  Big Brother is here in full force.

For what its worth, text messages are considered fine in other countries.  

Last time in London, the agency didn't provide recommendations since my phone# was a US cell#. I don't expect it to change during next weeks' trip, when I intend to use my cell phone instead of renting a UK one.

It's just my personal preference. Usually, I'm too busy emailing people back and answering unblocked numbers, so texting creates more work and more time for me, especially if I'm driving and on the road a lot. Too risky. Just email.

I can tell you, that company really wants "family friendly" text messaging.  None of that dirty flirting or adult stuff. No one who hobbies should keep them as a wireless carrier-- period.

In general, text messages aren't wise now.

Use of text messaging to set up apppointments or actually any other business is just plain wasteful of time and energy. Plus, my fingers are too damn big.

I have had two occaisions where I ran into young providers who would only communicate via texting. After finding this out, I just dropped them. Sorry, I guess I am just too ole fashion. But is is so completely impersonal and a waste of time it is not funny. Yes, even in my business life I do not deal with peeps using texting as a way of communicating. I drop them also.

I can hide the cell phone under the table at meetings (try that with a laptop) and text away...  but with respect to "showing up on billing" EVERYTHING shows up on billing.... maybe you get a truncated bill, but everything shows up on a billing statement somewhere...


With respect to the anonymous prepaid cel phones.... I would not count on them being soooo anonymous... as they are in the system.. and a smart dude can trace them, if they want to.
