I had a vasectomy in 1980 so my wife could get off The Pill. No pain, just a little discomfort. Was back at work the next day.

At that time, doctors could install tiny gold-plated valves in the vas deferens that could be turned on if the couple decided to have children. Very expensive option, though.

When I got married in the late 1950's, It was my wife who handled the birth control responsibilities. I don't think we ever used a condom. We had one child semi planned. After I finished my Graduate education and I had a good job I had a vasectomy. It was a breeze, took about 15 minutes, no pain, I don't remember any problems. Since I had facilities to examine my ejaculate for viable sperm, I didn't even return to the doctor for a followup. My wife didn't need any sort chemicals or iuds, etc, for the rest of her life.Now, almost all of my orgasms are CIM with an occasional FC so I still haven't used a regular condom.

No, it's the lack of ejaculation that causes 'blue balls'. With this little switch, a man can still ejaculate, as with a traditional vasectomy. The sperm thta are produced, just can't combine with the rest of the ejaculate material. Sperm is only a small part of what is contained in ejaculation fluid.

Dear lord, it sounds painful - anything stuck, attached, inserted in the sack sounds painful.  
Makes me wonder about sex with a pierced penis. Ouch.
