Liberal/Libertarian Border

Hiring Rush Limbaugh for the NFL pre-game show?!....I'm on the liberal/liberterian border, & I wouldn't want Alan Colmes or Bill Mahr on ESPN either....None of them belong there, but especially a loud-mouth jerk like Rush....I can see it now, Chris Berman will ask "Hey Rush, what do you think of the 49ers chances this year w/their new coach Dennis Erickson".....Rush will reply "No idea Chris, but have you heard the joke involving Bill Clinton, JFK, & the Musuem of Sex in NY"....

Didn't the Dennis Miller disaster (he was awful on MNF) teach ABC anything....

If ESPN is going to go outside the box like this, then get porn stars or the Hilton Sisters as commentators....I would love to hear Paris Hiltons' take on the 49ers...

That's a pretty big gap between Big Government and Minimal Government.  Libertarians are all for the socialist ideals of liberals, but through private volunteerism instead of government taxation (and ruination).  I agree about MNF though.  Bring on the Hilton Sisters, or the Olsen twins.  Aren't they 18 YET?

I'm far to the left as you can get. So far that Hillary calls me a left wing wanker. But that's not the point. Rush is a sports reporter. BTW heavy borrowing and spending brings ruin. Don't believe try running up your cards, then borrow to pay that off

Rush has held a number of jobs in radio and other industries before becoming a political commentator. He worked a number of years in baseball. Rush was also on the short list for Monday Night Football commentator. He is very knowledgable in the sport and knows most ot the majors on both sides, players and management.

Moose, you can at least take heart in the fact that Limbaugh isn't the 3rd man on ABC's MNF.  He was under consideration before they opted for Dennis Miller...who I agree was a disaster in that role.

Politics aside, I don't care for Limbaugh simply because he's so full of himself.  But the same can be said for many other TV personalities if one pays close attention...& in the case of ESPN, I'll cite as a personal example one Stuart Scott.

MNF hasn't been quite the same since Dandy Don, & not to speak ill of the dead, but I used to reach for the mute button every time Howard Cosell opened his mouth to give us little tidbits like the importance of the "immedicacy of trajectory" to the success of a field goal.  He never used a two-dollar word or phrase when there was a three-dollar one at hand...that's always so VERY impressive.

Cheer up...it could be worse I'm sure.

You are 100% correct when you said many TV personalities are full of themselves & Stuart Scott is a great example.....I cannot stand him...Keith Olbermann was the all time worst IMHO....Too many sportscasters also try to be comedians & they are simply not funny....

Yeah, it could be worse, Jim Rome could have gotten the job....Could you imagine that: "Ok clones, your pimp in the box says SF will win the SB"....."Have a take, don't suck, Raider fans"......."Van Smack says Denver -3 & I am out"

I was only about 12 when Cosell went off MNF, don't remember him too much....But did read couple times that his ego got the best of him...He thought he was bigger than the game being played...People were tuning in to see him, not Pittsburgh vs. Oakland - Dallas vs. Washington, etc.......

He`s brilliant. He`ll do a fine job because he knows what he`s talking about. I can`t wait for the left to demand equal time.

Just to be clear about this, deficit spending is not a Libertarian economic philosophy.  Less spending and less taxation.  Socially liberal and economically conservative, in other words, smaller government and a freer (sic) people.  Our federal government's role should be limited to defense and infrastructure and little else.  We could easily get out of debt if we just stopped trying to live everyone's life for them.  Abolish the income tax and replace it with a small sales tax.  Let charities take care of the lazy.  I mean needy.  No, I mean lazy.

that broadcasters are a lot like providers.  One man's athletic is another man's fat.  One man's GFE is another man's 4.

I dig the way Stuart Scott, Keith Olberman and other current sports reporters make highlights interesting using hip references.  I dug Dennis Miller's stint on MNF.  I'd rather hear Miller react spontaneously to a good hit than listen to Dan Deirdorf suck every players d#ck after every play - "And that's why - insert any name here - is a perennial all-pro."

I don't like Rush, but I look forward to hearing what he has to say.  And hopefully, I will hate it and scream at him on the televison.  I mean, seriously, we all love doing that.

And yes, I am a Libertarian - I want less broadcasters governing what I'm going to hear about the game and I want the freedom to mute the ones that are there.
