I got back to my hotel room around 3:00 pm today and house keeping did not come to clean the room until 5:00 pm. I have noticed that when I have gone to incall appointments at hotels that house keeping is still cleaning rooms up to 7:00 pm and later sometimes. Are they spying on people ?

doing the same job, which, in turn, results in longer days for the housekeeping staff.  Tip them well.

a mid-day appointment, all it takes is some cash in the housekeeper's hands.  Tipping will get you most anything.

Actually, all you have to do is call the front desk and ask them to come clean your room.

The FBI, CIA, Justice Department, Homeland Security and local Vice cops are all training middle aged immigrants who barely speak English to spy on unsuspecting hotel guests...Brilliant!

That usually seems to work for me. I  always thought, however, that I was receiving special VIP treatment.  I did not realize they will do that for anybody

I will be surprised if hotels lay off people who clean rooms to save a very few dollars at the risk of alienating valued customers.  Of course if they have decreased demand for rooms that would spur layoffs.
We should all tip the housekeeping staff.  They work hard and deserve it.

You know the last time I had a "date" I was sure I heard people laughing at me outside the room.  They were muttering in English I could barely understand about how could that ugly old man be with such a young beautiful woman. I just thought I was insecure and paranoid. Now I know what is going on!

But housekeeping's JOB is to clean your room and, within reason, clean it at your convenience.

Hotels schedule and assign housekeeping staff based on demand. If there is a block of rooms that are reserved for a large group that is not checking in until the next day, those rooms will get cleaned AFTER the ones that are currently occupied-later in the afternoon or early evening. Guests who are currently in a room generally do not have to wait until late in the day to have their rooms cleaned...unless, like me, they always forget to take the "do not disturb" sign off the door...lol

You forgot the wonderful TSA that we deal with regularly when we fly.

Hotels like the W and the Gansevoort are pretty good about service. Just dial in and let them know you need service at a certain time. Oh! and don't forget to leave your maid a tip. It goes a long way.

...sometimes airport hotels, and certainly those with more stars often have housekeeping present in the halls well into the evening.  The better hotels are doing turndown service at that time.  Nothing new...

I have it on good authority that the TSA uses only room service waiters for their spying...

I just returned from a stay at the Wynn in Vegas.  The room was cleaned and towels replaced no less than twice a day.  I swear that someone straightened up every time I walked out of the door!
