I tried my own phone number, even though it's unpublished. What the search turned up was the last two people who had my number before me. Presumably, the reason that I have my number now is because the people who had that number before me moved, so the information shown by Google is not only "stale", it's inacurate in its older listings.
Also, it appears that cell phones are not included in the database.
I know that there are ways on the net to get someone's phone # and address, but this one just came to my atention and I thought it appropriate to share here:
There is a new Google feature: type a telephone number into Google's search bar, click the search button and have a MapQuest page returned as a result.
Any person wishing to discover the physical location of a phone number, be it a home (YOURS for example) or business address can use this. Any stalker could use this feature to locate a physical street address and receive explicit directions how to get there from anywhere in the country.
Go to http://www.google.com Then type in your phone number or any phone number. If you have an unlisted number you are not at risk, but you should pass it on to your family and friends.
Google has made available an option that will allow anyone to remove his/her phone number from the database that is linked to the mapping feature. You first need to check if your number is listed in this manner by attempting a search -- entering your full phone number separated by dashes (555-123-4567).
If the number appears in the mapping database, an icon resembling a telephone will appear next to the first or second entry on the results page. Clicking on this icon will take you to a page containing a description of the service as well as a link to request your number be removed from the database.
Many people are unaware of this new database service. Do you really want just anyone to get a perfect map to your house just by entering your phone number?

There have always been telephone number searches on the Web. This has just saved a step by including the link to the map in the search engine. All they are using is an electronic telephone book. They buy a copy of the numbers from the phone company and create a database.
This is also availible when you call 411 or look it up in the phone book on line, ladies make sure you're number is not a land line or simply call the phone company like fortitude suggested and ask to that yours be a non-published number, however if someone you want to find you tries and you have this block they will have to do some major digging. Hope this helps, but I'm sure most ladies know this-I hope...
