I've seen a few people asking what's the best prepaid phone to get and other post that recommend hobbyist get a dedicated hobby phone, if they want to keep things on the down low.  Has anyone ever used magic jack?

I just bought it due to my constant travels overseas.  A co-worker of mine has it and it's simple to use.  You can get a local number and as long as your computer is on, you can make/receive calls.  If a hobbyist has a dedicated laptop or other computer this could be an option.  Only cost $40 for the initial purchase and then $20 a year after that.

Just curious to see if anyone else has used this...

Since I'm mostly concerned with LE, I don't like having my name associated with anything that is easily traced back to me.  So it sounds like Magic Jack requires internet access to work.  Unless I can run magic jack through a VPN from a different country, I won't be using it.  Can you pay cash for Magic Jack for the service?

How would it work when your meeting for an incall?  You bring your laptop with you and connect through a wi-fi somewhere?
