But DAMN! People are using threads from this forum for all sorts of studies, thesis, and articles.
Many articles about prostitution especially the civil kind eventually lead to TER, and usually..

TER is one of the top 2,000 ranked websites in the US...  The Internet exceeded 550 million unique domains by the end of last year with over 300 million added in 2011 alone.  

I believe that nearly half the planet now has an email address.  3.5 billion is a lot of potential viewers, and studies.  Of course, I'm just hear for the fun.

And I think it's extremely interesting.  I recently got out of a really long relationship and I was seriously just looking for an orgasm that didn't involve my own hand.  Not interested in dating or putting forth the effort even for a one nighter.  Landed on backpage and then subsequently here.  

Honestly, it's like it's own private society with its own culture....its own set of "rules."  On a certain level, this is all a charade.  But at the same time, there is a feeling of genuineness (is that a word?) from a lot of what I read here.  It's an interesting dichotomy to say the least (at least for me....undergrad Psychology major LOL).  I get the impression that there are a lot of people with big hearts in the hobby (there are plenty of exceptions, of course).  That was a pleasant surprise to me as you all know the stereotypes.  

I think a lot of folks who have been in the hobby figure out a way to come to terms with their lifestyle....in a way that works for them.  That's also very interesting in and of itself as not everyone is capable of doing that.  

I honestly like the openness.  People are willing to talk about anything and that is great.  It's refreshing to be honest.  

Stocks for paper manufacturers would go through the roof......

What better place to get a bunch of different views on the hobby than a place where johns and hookers post their opinions on things? Some of you guys post pretty personal shit on here to, if I were writing a book, I would pay a visit to all the review boards I could find for background research on the topic, because how many of you would willingly disclose information to a writer. They're watching...you're posts!

@TheHoundOfCullin---Yeah, one reason to never use the same user name across ANY seperate boards... ESPECIALLY something "private to your business" only like this site---Therefore don't use same name for even a Fantasy Football league login, etc. If you want to use close (to help remember login names--just flip some of the words---ideally use completely different). .

I have a Masters in IT---Specialized in Information Security. (I mention not to puff myself up, but to let you know--study a lot--).

It is UNBELIEVABLE---the data trove you can get (just knowing how to use Google in it's most advanced form)---URL Syntax Hacking, etc. Site search is *VERY POWERFUL* tool. Don't even need to pay for the crap.

*not talking down, just friendly advice for people not in the know*

1-NEVER EVER EVER EVER give your SSN# to *ANY COMPANY* those only "required" to have it are a Bank and the IRS--*PERIOD*---No company can "FORCE" you to provide an SSN#--the flip side is they CAN require you to provide a deposit. *Most* are fair/reasonable--Comcast $60 (provided as credit to next month bill). Power Company like $100--provided Credit after 12-months. The only @sshats are AT&T, they want a $1000/deposit--told them what they could do with their $1000 deposit.

2-I have literally--about 15+ different email addresses---Don't consistently use same email address
mix it up. Let some go "stale" awhile (6-12 months)--rotate back again.

3-Use Google voice (period)--Again though--never tie it to your real name--just websites if you sign up, require a phone number---use that as your number. Again, let it go stale after 6-ish months--get a new one--roate again.

4-I Personally (in my state)---they allow you to have your Driver License address as a PO. BOX--DO IT!
(they'll be unable to correlate--or make it more difficult--with home address).

5-If you are a Home Owner--Put the home into an LLC (many other Legal reasons)--however, once again, "Hides" ownership.YES--Databrokers probably will find it. Again, if they do, simple "Quit Claim" deed--to a New LLC---keeps them guessing.

6-At all times (if possible)--use a Pre-Paid visa/mc-to pay for stuff on the web--Now, one Caveat--If you want to buy stuff off the web. You'll have to "register" the gift card to an address...again, use Fake name---make an address up. (they don't send a card to verify)--They simply need (for protection)--you to supply the Zip-code to check out of a merchant.

7-The sites that require a Credit Care to sign up for a 30-day trial (promising not to charge you until 31-days).  

Credit Cards are "Verified" by a formula called "The Luhn Formula" (a simple "Check sum"--making sure the card is "real" (numbers "Pass the test" of real. ).

By the way, this is not illegal PARSE--because you're in a "trial period--not supposed to be charged anyway. Naturally if you forget on day 31--they try to charge, it will error out on their end "insufficient funds".

The only way you could in trouble trying that stuff on a Jewelry site, etc. That would border on "Clear Intention to Defraud"---but Porn/Netflix/Hulu--all that BS--just generate a Valid Card Number So you don't get ZAPPED. day 31.

I have a credit card EONS ago canceled (like 2000)still use my best guess for the new date--so far, still works--I just "Guess" since they change the Expiration every 2-4 years.

In this technological era of the web and everything on it and a multitude of ways to find things on it, it truly ought not come as a surprise to anyone that all that we say here is in some way or another accessible. You would be naive or totally ignorant and downright foolish to think otherwise. Everyone should Google their handle AND TER and see what shows up: everything you've ever written in these discussion boards! And that's just the easy search. The best way to maintain a modicum of security is to NEVER use or mention your handle anywhere else on the internet. Even if your ATF uses your handle in an email which has your name attached to it, your cover/anonymity is blown forever. If you provide screening info to a lady that includes your full name, TER handle and a photo (as one provider's website, that I checked out today, was requesting) then your anonymous status is history - it's only a matter of a day or two before the spiders/web crawlers capture it and store it somewhere for someone to find. Ladies, so many of you use ad photos some of which you may also hang up on your Facebook account. NOT good... Guess what? You've just made it possible for a diligent researcher to figure out your real identity! And that's without any hacking or stalking involved. It's all open

So I as looking through that blog...(Thank You Hound)...and everything starts off with a BB headline about looser from SF trying to get BBFS. and then it seems to auto stream stuff from TER, with no real rhyme or reason to the threads shown. Goes through the GD and regional boards.

Guy seems to be an anti trafficking zealot with a penchant for blaming poon sites for the problem. IMO totally misguided and wicked creepy at the same time. If you go out to the main page, he posts headlines nationwide for arrests.

So, I've done some elementary searches, and it is kind of amazing what you can find, particularly if you correlate information from different sources.

One suggestion: The cutesy handles we all use are sometimes near-unique identifiers. It might be user to switch over to "Fred Smith". Mine's not bad; there seem to be many people who use xray84 in different ways and different forums, but I'd probably go with something more generic/common if I was doing it again.

Second suggestion to providers and clients both: Do NOT give away seemingly harmless bits of information in dribs and drabs over time. Put together and with a little bit of google, that'll point straight to your real name and more. Of course, with an ATF or two, this almost certainly won't apply, given human nature. I'm guilty of it myself...

But I am serious in that there is a sort of strange, twisted social hierarchy on boards.

And a fuck board with this topic has got to be one of the more interesting case studies for this sort of thing.

Research and the current professional literature in Sociology are heavily into the study of social interaction, hierarchies and effects of social media to include Facebook, Twitter, blogs and chatrooms, and discussion boards such as ours. Add in the element of sex (i.e. social interaction for sexual coupling) and it would be surprising if TER and other similar boards weren't ground zero for research by all of the social sciences (sociology, anthropology, psychology, and I can even envision a Master's thesis or Ph.D. dissertation in economics resulting from research on our board in the future).
I guess one might say: "We are where it's at!"

Not me.....graduated long ago.  And I went to grad school for Human Resource Management.  If you ask me, many Psychologists/Psychiatrists are crazier than their patients.
