DC to Boston. it saves a ton of time in getting to and from airports - and the airlines now charge for the 1st piece of luggage... not just the second.... also most Amtrak goes into the center of the cities... and you may even save transit time...
As to which cities... Ciara has an interesting point. One which I personlly would like her to expand on.... but then again -what do I know.
hello everyone! I have been in this business for a few years...and have always stayed local> Traveling for me is visiting Richmond, Charlottesville or Va Beach.
Recently I thought, hey why dont I travel? I would prefer to take an early flight to get to my location and then a late flight to get back home.
I am going to start this Fall, but I will only tour the East Coast states...
My questions are and this if for the nice men and the lovely ladie of the board:
What are the prime places to tour on the east coast?
As for the airport...what times are the latest flights? When i get on a plane its to go home to Europe.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Sincerely, Sidney Starr
what is good for one girl - may not be good for you -
when you start traveling, your cities pick you , you dont pick them .. you always know what cities to go back to..
when traveling, dont pick big metro cities and then say, the men were awful, there are THOUSANDS of girls in DC/Chicago/NYC / And above that, Hundreds of girls touring there.
these are called tier 1 cities.. the big cities..
Pick tier 2 cities.. smaller cities... smaller states...
I'm already planning my fantasy trip for next year. I love the thought of enjoying the journey and doing one night stopovers along the way all the way up the eastcoast.
Since it's quiet in Florida during the summer and everyone leaves town i'm going to follow right behind just travel a little slower.
Think of all the wonderful things you can pack in your car that won't fit in your bags.
Top on my list will be my favorite pair of candelabras with soy candles, a beautiful spread and pillows, some special towels and shower fun soap, my crystal wine glasses, XXX-rated videos, a large bag of adult type toys, At least 8 pair of heels and some very sexy clothes, music to soothe the savage beast in me and last but not least my lava lamp for the Dead head journey to no where I thought I would never take again.
Oh how I miss my old VW panel bus , so brightly painted with flowers and dressed in my gypsy finery on a trip to nowhere.
Any one want to cum along for the ride?
Back to the matter at hand! Just think how much cost it would be to pack that suitcase and put it on a plane to nowhere.
Haleys cumming to a small town near you next summer.
Kisses Haley

"I would prefer to take an early flight to get to my location and then a late flight to get back home."
Early flight in, late flight out is fine if you want to sight see. Otherwise, if you arrive at 8am, there is no guarantee that you can check-in before 3pm, or check out after 11 am (+/- depending upon the hotel). Even if the hotel has a check-in time of 3 pm, I've arrived at hotels at 5 pm, and was told it would be an hour before the room would be ready.
Some hotels will allow you to stay until 6pm for 1/2 the night rate. I'm sure something similar would be available for guaranteed early check-in. I've seen day rates (8am-6pm) at hotels, especially at hotels near convention centers. People are there for the day for a conference, and would like a place to relax and do some work between meetings.

As to places to see, Asheville NC (Biltmore Estate); Orlando (Epcot Center); Charleston, SC (Lots of Civil War history); Gettysburg, PA (battlefield); Chattanooga, TN (aquarium). Just a few.

Hi Sidney
Check the cities served by the amtrak southern crescent from NY to NO. If you're in the position to take some time for a tour you could hit a lot of interesting places along that route. Much more pleasant than doing the airport thing and a lot of fun along the way. Cheers - Gregory
"The City Of New Orleans"
(As recorded by Arlo Guthrie)
STEVE GOODMAN
Ridin' on The City of New Orleans
Illinois Central, and Monday morning rail
Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders
Three conductors, twenty-five sacks of mail.
All along the southbound odyssey
The train pulls out of Kankakee
And rolls along past houses, farms and fields
Passin' trains that have no name
And freightyards full of old black men
And the graveyards of the rusted automobiles.
Good morning America, how are ya?
Said don't you know me, I'm your native son?
I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans
I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done.
Dealin' card games with the old men in the club cars
Penny a point, ain't no one keepin' score?
Pass the paper bag that holds the bottle
Feel the wheels grumblin' 'neath the floor.
And the sons of Pullman porters
And the sons of engineers
Ride their father's magic carpets made of steam
Mothers with their babes asleep
Are rockin' to the gentle beat
And the rhythm of the rails is all they feel.
Good morning America, how are ya?
Said don't you know me, I'm your native son?
I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans
I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done.
Nighttime on The City of New Orleans
Changin' cars in Memphis, Tennessee
Halfway home, and we'll be there by morning
Through the Mississippi darkness rollin' down to the sea.
But all the towns and people seem
To fade into a bad dream
And the steel rail still ain't heard the news
The conductor sings his songs again
The passengers will please refrain
This train's got the disappearin' railroad blues.
Good night America, how are ya?
Said don't you know me, I'm your native son?
I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans
I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done.

Sometimes...ya just gotta get out the oldies... they tell great stories...
Sidney,
Being a "traveling provider" myself, its really a risk because some areas of the east coast will adore you to no endless measure and then there are areas that might not tickle you fancy.
No one is really in a position to go on tour and loose out nowadays but its the risk you are going to have to take.
Go to cities that will entertain you during the down time (NYC, Boston, Philly or D.C.) especially if you fly. Stay somehwere centrally located. That way you could eliminate the car rental expense and be within walking distance of the sights.
Good luck dear : )
