This is a good example of how Twitter can help get out news, but I only see one Tweet about this which is from Nicole@P411 from  21hr ago which says "Yes, the entire server farm is down due to a power failure. We are working on it. Thanks for your patience!"

Anyone else having trouble getting on P411? If it is down does anyone know why?

Yes. P411 has been down for two days. I find no information available, explaining the shut-down.

It's down since at least Monday morning. Have no info about cause/reason.

P411 Update:

We are dealing with a Denial of Service attack out of Asia.

The short version (how I understood it) is that we are being hit over and
over, by thousands of malware infected computers, which is overloading
our servers and bringing the site down. We have people working to block
the attacking ips, during which time the site needs to be completely
offline. Once all of the ips have been blocked, we'll put the site back up.

P411 Update

We are experiencing a ddos attack. What is a ddos attack? It is when a site is targeted by a huge amount of computerized traffic, far more than a server can handle. The goal is to render a site useless.

The ddos attack we are experiencing is "massive", and the ISP has blocked all traffic to P411 until it is under control. We have pulled the entire site offline for the time being.

I am working with numerous tech people to do resolve the problem. Unfortunately, ll I can say is that we are working on it, and we're doing the best we can.

Yeah, have about 2 day down...

It's a distributed Denial of Service attack.  This happened to the credit card industry a while back by Anonymous.  Its when the attacker access a bunch of zombies(computers the attackers have access to or a trojan on but the actual user is unaware of the background activity his/her machine is performing) and send more requests than the server can handle from many different sources (thus the distribution of the attack)  without a good IPS (intrusion prevention system) it can be difficult to guard against.  Firewall will not solve the problem per se.
