You never know when a guy might rip you off. Never know what is going on in his life that that check might not go through. So no, I will not ever take a check. It is up to her if she wants to take the chance of getting paid or not. I have heard of some gals taking a guy to court over rejected checks and/or credit cards.

Risky and unnecessary, I do take deposits for my extended engagements and even credit cards which are under a legitimate business entity which does not point out my personal info. No need to have my real name linked to a personal check.  Perhaps being that you have been seeing her for a while, there is a certain level of trust where she feels fully comfortable cashing or depositing those checks. After the whole Elliot Spitzer situation, I guess all of us learned a lesson a hard way.

I once had a client give me a personal check and it bounced. Another client tried to give me a cashier's check. I told him cash only. After those two incidents, cash only. I don't want to take the risk of a check bouncing again.

Bitcoin transactions are nearly immediate, require neither party to carry large amounts of cash, are irreversible (unlike credit cards or PayPal), and are more or less the future of the hobby (and Yeah, I know all about the recent Silk Road bust--but that doesn't undermine the effectiveness of Bitcoin as an alternative currency--private transactions between individuals using Bitcoin are NOT going away).

All hobbyists and providers should be familiarizing themselves with Bitcoin.  One of my favorite providers actually prefers to settle matters with Bitcoin, and even is willing to discount a bit for Bitcoin over cash.

Umm, and what would be your source for this "information" about Bitcoin?  Sounds as if you cut and pasted from some lame-brained article written by some techno-boog blogger who doesn't know s--- about the subject he's writing about.  As for the "facts" cited in this article:

Monitoring = having your transactions verified as being legit.  Those transactions are monitored by those who "mine" Bitcoins--that's why they are compensated for their efforts by being rewarded their (currently) 25 Bitcoins every time.  This prevents people from "double spending" the same Bitcoins, and all sorts of other shenanigans.

Logging = a record of transactions.  Yes, the act of logging does make the use of Bitcoins only "pseudo-anonymous".  But these transactions can be made totally anonymous by a variety of methods.  Besides which, goverments only have a limited number of resources to allocate in their misguided efforts to clamp down on alternative currencies.  No government is going to pay any attention to a transaction of five Bitcoins for your $750-equivalent date with a provider.

Hijack:  Seriously?  I think everyone in the hobby, and especially everybody on TER is presumed to be computer-savvy enough to prevent their computers from being "hijacked" (what the hell does that even mean, anyway?  The mining game is so advanced now that one needs extremely powerful and specifically-tailored machines to mine effectively.  Even if somebody "hijacked" a thousand machines, the actual yield in Bitcoins would be extremely small--it's simply not worth the effort to try to set up a network of zombie machines to do one's Bitcoin mining).

There's an overarching meta-point to my advocacy of Bitcoins in the hobby, though:  I know too many providers who have a difficult time because they sit on large amounts of cash, and can only bring small amounts into the above-ground community at any one time.  Bitcoin is an excellent way to diversify the portfolio, and make things a little bit easier for the women to stay in a stable financial situation.

Beside all of that, I'm just one of those libertarian, crypto-right wing-anarchist types; anything that will end (or even diminish the power of) the Creature from Jekyll Island (also known as the Federal Reserve bank) is automatically A Good Thing, in my book.  Money which is backed by something (even what something is "proof of work" of the solving of complex computation) is infinitely better than money backed by the "full faith and credit" of a national government--especially a national government which is the world's largest debtor.

this is not the first or second time you have tried to hammer this shit home. if the providers you see had an ounce of sense and paid their taxes like good little girls, they would not have need to "sneak" the money in or above ground. oops. like the concept, but not the hassle and i would not pay a hooker that way.

If you're suggesting that I'm a rep for providers, the answer is No.  I do have a certain amount of respect for anyone who sees the promise of Bitcoin (or whatever crypto-currency might succeed it--there may well be a "better mousetrap" down the road) as a way to wrest the power of money creation from tyrannical governments.  A provider who shares my opinion on this matter is always going to pique my interest (Yeah, I know, I'm a mangina or something, because I actually give a s--- about what my provider friends are into, besides f'ing for money; I plead guilty on this count with no apologies).

If you're suggesting that I'm a shill for the "them" that is the Bitcoin community:  Yeah, I guess I am.  As an enthusiast, I can't help soapboxing a bit about it when the opportunity to bring it into a discussion is appropriate.  As an early adopter, I have a vested interest in advocating for it, since that will tend to increase the value of my investment into Bitcoin and into my mining efforts.  As someone who from time to time makes a market in Bitcoin (being willing to act as someone who is willing to both buy and sell Bitcoin for a certain amount of vig), I again have a vested interest in promoting its use.  However, there are many early adopters who "evangelize" about Bitcoin.  I'm sure that there are early adopters who are involved in other activities which they would like to keep anonymous for whatever reason, and I'm sure that they are also trying to "spread the word".

I'm merely offering another option that some may not know about.  There are always new people on these boards who don't know about this stuff.

Look at it this way:  We get dumb shit from Udo, Escalade, etc, on here every day.  Once every three weeks we get the same questions about manscaping, female condoms, Viagra vs Levitra vs Cialis, blah blah blah.  So perhaps three or four times in the past year, I've mentioned Bitcoin.  I don't think that's a particularly high frequency, and I don't think I'm spamming the board by mentioning it from time to time.

As for the original question:  OP was asking about paying by check for services--which in general is a bad idea, for all the reasons pointed out by others.  If somebody is looking for the benefits of paying by check (rather than cash), without some of the liabilities, I think Bitcoin is an alternative worth consideration.

i had a regular pay me half in cash and half in a check which was written on a closed account.  he is no longer my regular of course and he after that incident we got into an argument over it and he stopped taking my calls and i never got the rest of my money.
