Here I am at work and I just got off the phone with a lady who spent less time telling me what her technical issues were.....and more time explaining to me why she has an irrational fear of growing old.

I have a good friend who is about to be a grandmother and is trying to figure out a cute name for her grandson to call her....she does not want him calling her any variation of Grandma. She is 48 years old.....and is absolutely terrified of growing old.

I can't wrap my mind around the whole "OMG, she is 40+ years old!" I always think to myself unless you are planning on checking out of life today...as in right now. We are all going to get older.

I look at older women and think to myself: What wisdom is rolling around in their heads? What advice are they giving younger people they are associated with? I don't look at older women and say OMG SHE HAS WRINKLES, THEY SAG, OMG HER HAIR IS THINNING. I look at them and smile....one day I will be in my 80's, smarter, wiser, and because of my experiences.....I already know I will be extra feisty!! I cannot wait for my grandkids to wonder why am I ALWAYS FLIRTING WITH MY MALE NURSES.

I love getting older, yes my body is changing but my mind is growing, my emotions are maturing, and for ME my most sensitive, erogenous zone is my MIND!

... and some of them are wise beyond their years and thus exempt from this comment ... (so anyone who meets that profile, I'm NOT talking about you! ) ...

But I have never really appreciated civie women under 30, even when I was under 30. I couldn't stand teenage girls as a teenager, and really couldn't stand them in their 20's. Oh, sure, I lusted after them; but they largely seemed to lack the "substance" I wanted in a woman.

There is something qualitatively different about a woman over 30. She has her head (generally) screwed on straighter.

I can't really speak much to over 40; but the two over-40 ladies I know make up for the lack of 20-something looks with more down-to-earth practical attitudes, sincerity and unbelievable skills.

So I say: don't sweat it and keep doing whatever you're doing; because whatever it is ... seems to be working JUST FINE!   And your male nurses will probably be competing to see who can be your favorite!

Your wisdom is beyond any I have heard and I know growing older for you will be growing in grace and integrity.

and damned glad that I made it this far. I have five grandchildren that I'm glad I lived long enough to see, and I plan to spend several more years enjoying them. Granted, there are things that I can't do as well, or as fast as I once did, but there are other things that I do much better.

Each of us has much more hidden inside us than we have had a chance to explore so why not discover the limits of our potential?

Our World is full of a bunch of young people who find themselves suddenly inside old people's bodies asking: What the hell happened?

If I knew then what I know now...and had that same (pre-baby) body....I would be filthy rich....and already retired......but would I? I am more open to new things and meeting new people. I know who I am....I am very comfortable and very open about my sexuality. It is what it is at this point in the game.

I have decided I am not going to change the color of my hair when the grays start popping in, I will retire when I am good and ready.....not at some pre-ordained shelf life...who wrote that rule?, I am going to die flirting, I am going to love hearing the term "granny" and seeing little people running towards me, and I am going to keep an open mind about things.

What are you babies whining about ?  I'll turn 84 next month and happy that I can still enjoy seeing you lovely ladies.
Growing older isn't so bad when you consider the alternative.
BTW, Dr. Joe got it exactly right - a young person trapped in an older body!

Wow, this is an awesome thread! At 44, I see myself gaining a few pounds, and loosing a few hairs (or more), and see my children getting older. I feel sad that many youth of today don't look at their elders with the respect they should. Geez, I remember that lesson from when I was a child. RESPECT YOUR ELDERS!

I'm sure that is how it goes! All too often we're bogged down with careers, families, &  routine real life that before we realize it our existence has passed us by

"Live life to the fullest..." This overused yet simple motto is all too true. Step back from life's responsibilities every so often and simply go crazy without regrets!

I refuse to be the 80 y/o woman that looks back without some juicy stories to tell

she asked me out--she's 40 ish. Had to chuckle--she's too old for me--couldn't keep up. After dropping dead at 49 and brought back alive and kicking--there is no stopping me. My  girl friend was half my age/smart/beautiful beyond words and still I flirted with every nurse in the hospital--my room looked like a nurses break room. I drive 150 miles or more a day/ climb on and off many houses roofs every day/ golf/ride my horse/hike mountains/ chase women and TS's all the time--just came back from Vegas--Atlanta is next. OLD ??? not yet---when I die I will leave a great looking body--make it easier on the mortician. OLD is when you give up. I will never give up.

So Allure---tell your friend to hire some young escort---bang the hell out of him like you always wanted to and start enjoying life.  I t will reverse the aging process---I guarantee it.

OMG!!! I love getting older!! I'm wiser, sexier & settled! I admire the sureness of older women. The women in my family age well and I am doing the same. I like that I have experience in life and in the world and long standing friends of 20 plus years. I like knowing that the world doesn't end when things don't go my way....and to just keep it moving.

I never understood the whole "Oh I dont tell my age" issue....for some women they are obsessed with staying young...to the point where they look like a complete freak show.

I am 48, and I love it. I hear it gets even more fun after 50, so I look forward to that.
I do not photo shop my pictures. I like my wrinkles and grey hair. I like me the way I am.
Never would I want to go back to being in my twenty's or thirties.
At 40 years old the real fun is just beginning.

I have to agree with you completely.
I am going to be 47 in August and for the most part (aside from the reading glasses and my right knee creeking at times) I am very happy with myself my life and who in time...I have grown to become as a woman.
Age is just a number but 47 is one I am very comfortable with.
