But I am saddened by his death.  I am sure he is in a better place now.  In Rock and Roll heaven, they got a hellova band.  But in my opinion, Moore is second fiddle to numerous others dead guitarists.  Still, Thin Lizzy was a cool name though.

Lost my viginity in a car (hers) and the song playing on her 8-track was Thin Lizzy's 'Whiskey in the Jar'.
Just read Gary Moore died in a Spanish hotel (on holiday) at age 58.
To this day, this song is still in my top 5; not only because its relevance to me, but just because it's truly a great tune!

RIP Gary Moore (and thanks).

I would think that you of all people would like hirogen, he might be a right winger, but he is as far from PC as a person can get. Anyone that can piss off the "old fat broad, and mangina" like he can, is OK in my book. lmao

But he didn't play on that song nor is he the guitar player in the video that you linked to.  Eric Bell was the original guitar player in THin Lizzy (and the guy in the video).  Gary Moore was an amazing guitar player but he didn't join Lizzy until years after "Whisky" was recorded and didn't actually record an album with them until just shortly before the bands demise.

Actually just heard that today (on ZLX) almost verbatim of your post, BG!!
And it's obvious when you hear/see that video who was playing on the original recording.
Learn something new everyday!

because he never really wanted to be a star, he was always guitar-first. He was somewhat comfortable joining TL because the spotlight was on Lynott, but even their emphasis on gaining a bit of an audience (the first time he joined) or keeping their audience (the second time he joined) was more than he wanted.  His love was the blues and Hendrix style rock, which is what he spent most of his career playing (although I actually enjoyed his harder mid-80's stuff more, like "Victims of the Future" and "Wild Frontier"... VOTF is killer mid-80's guitar).

Lots of guitarists respected Moore, though...

including, ironically, John Sykes, who got one of the biggest disses of the 80's after he helped Whitesnake become famous by co-writing most of their breakout 1987 album (guitar work on "Still of the Night" is 80's guitar at its best) and then was dumped by David Coverdale right before the tour for an "all star" band.

For "Whiskey in the Jar", though, you can thank the Irish musical heritage...

Wish he played this, one of my favorite TL songs on the record, but he put his own stamp on it I'm sure in concert.
