A lady or two that I believe are very trustworthy have informed me (actually quite some time ago) that Jack's assessment of the typical hobbyist is quite correct. Does this necessarily apply to ALL hobbyists? No. But it is sufficiently common that his point has some rational basis. However, because there are many exceptions, I believe his statement was unduly harsh and furthermore failed to take into account many reasons outside of the physical why a wife might not have sex with her husband, including the effects of menopause in some women.
I have adopted this particular alias, which I've used for some time, to denote and represent that unfavorable image of hobbyists; though I am one of the exceptions that doesn't meet that image.
As for his assessment of providers; I believe that it is unduly harsh.
Most assuredly, although no doubt with some exceptions, I think it is reasonable to state that most people follow whatever occupations they can in order to bring in the most dollars for the least investment of time. If most providers could get paid $10k/hr to research library books; they'd quit providing quite quickly and go research library books instead.
So if their economic value in other skills were such that they could make more money in exchange for less work in another line of work; most would go to that other line of work just like anyone else. Not all, but most.
So it can reasonably be surmised that while most providers might have other employment options and skills; they are currently working in the role in which they are most economically valuable. Not in all cases, of course -- but in most. I'm sure that somewhere out there is a provider who gave up being an anesthesiologist in order to provide; but she is the exception rather than the rule.
But I disagree with Jack's assessment of this choice of provider's representing laziness.
In terms of real value; earnings even for well-educated people have been declining since Y2K. Moreover, the opportunities to make these wages are fewer than at anytime in my admittedly shorter-than-Jack's lifetime.
You can tell how well a country is doing economically by the proportion of its population involved in prostitution. Look at Eastern Europe. Look at South Africa. Our economy SUCKS.
If Jack thinks that it was an easy or lazy decision on the part of a woman to suck his dick for money, he needs to reconsider.
Meanwhile, social mores have changed. Men have become frustrated with our system of Custody/Access/Support and easy access to unilateral divorce that is exercised by women twice as often as men; and as a result they have gone on a marriage strike.
Thus, increasing numbers of women who, in past eras, could have relied on a man at least partially for support can no longer do so. They wanted to come a long way baby, and they have arrived at the holy grail of financial independence; which means the right to starve. But beyond that, even those who DO marry are finding themselves married to men who have been thoroughly indoctrinated by feminist doctrines of equality that expect women to work and provide half of a household's support.
Gone are the days where most men would willingly work their ass off so a wife could stay at home and raise kids. Not only are those kids a financial liability if she exercises the 50/50 option of unilateral divorce; but if he doesn't keep her in the workforce and self-supporting; she can nail him for alimony even if she divorces him because she fell in love with the milkman.
And the ubiquitous nature of the lifestyles of the rich and famous represented in our popular culture have caused many women to expect something that is not reasonable: a well-off husband. Fewer than 5% of men earn over $154k. Fewer than 1% earn over $230k. Competition for this 6% of men is fierce. These men can actually choose. But it is a game of musical chairs and most men who will eventually earn that kind of money were scooped up by other women with foresight. Finding a ready-made well-off man who doesn't have gobs of baggage is damned hard. Nevertheless, the expectation is that a well-off man is waiting just around the corner who will commit to them entirely; thus making too many women unhappy in settling for less financially endowed men.
So there are many cultural forces at work here, that I am just barely touching upon. And I haven't even listed all of them.
The bottom line is that the upshot of many long-term cultural trends, policy trends and economic trends has put a large number of women in such a position that their best economic option is prostitution.
Some do take joy in it, and that is good.
But it isn't all wine and roses all the time.
Just as there is a game of musical chairs for the most desirable men in marriage; there is a game of musical chairs for the clients who don't meet Jack's stereotypes. A certain subset of providers has an uncanny knack for finding these less-fugly hobbyists (and the wealthier of hobbyists) and essentially taking them off the market for other providers in short order.
That leaves the remainder servicing Jack; and no way is that joyful.
