I was wondering how long the average hobbyist stay in activity. I was reading reviews and saw that most reviewers are out in 2-3 years.
Should I expect such hobby's lifespan?

Like mrf and unlucky I have been doing it for around 30 years, and you'll hear the same thing from Gambler.

Will continue till the day I die.  In fact I almost expect to die while with an escort...busting a nut and heart simultanously.  What a way to go...out with a smile.  But that may be 10, 15, 20 years away.

I think once you start you may quit after a few months but keep coming back.
A lot depends on what is going with your life: marriage, kids, divorce, marriage, kids, divorce, etc.
Different for every hobbyist. But once you get a "taste" I think you are "hooked" for life. Of course finances also plays a huge role; just like gambling, drinking, smoking, it is an addiction. You just need to be able to control it and don't let it control you.

many start off like a kid in a candy shop and burn out quickly.  Taking breaks to recharge is a good idea.

I'm 25 and so far it's been great.  I've made a ton of mistakes even after reading the newbie forum but I think its pretty good I've experienced those mistakes and to definitely learn from them.

About 13 years and counting, but I've taken a few breaks in between.  I never thought that I'd be in the hobby for this long. LOL!
