I hate the current number system.

"One guys 8 is someone else 10. The score are ether overinflated or unfair."

As long as everyone realizes that and takes it with a grain of salt hobbyists shouldn't be getting stuck with someone totally different than they were looking for.. I don't fear 8's, I try to avoid 5's.The number system streamlines the research process. I have no desire to read a hundred reviews, sifting through mileage I wouldn't want to drive..

Step 1. I look at her photos

If I like what I see I go to step 2

Step 2. I look at the numbers

If I like the numbers I go to step 3

Step 3. I read some of her reviews

When is TER going to change their description of a 10 (both looks and performance) to something other than "one in a life time"????!!!!   I've had several experiences that were approaching a 10 on my scale, but can I say One in a lifetime???   And what if I do and later have an even better experience.  Am I supposed to go back and demote the first one to a 9.   Come on, Moderator, I've written TER with this suggestion before, and I know others have as well.

Sorry for the minor rant.  Now on with the real answers.

Executive summary of questions (for discussion and context see below):

1. For hobbyists: what unique aspects of an experience have made it a 10 for you?
2. For providers: was there anything special from your perspective about sessions in which you earned a 10?
3. For hobbyists: what methods, especially unorthodox methods, have you employed that have resulted in 10 experiences?

Discussion and Context
---------------------------
Let's forget the "Once in a Lifetime" description as applying literally only once; because it has occurred to me, having had yet another "10" experience, that every lady who is a 10, is a 10 in a different way and for different reasons.

Of course, I'm not personally a huge fan of broadcasting the content of intimate time; but I realize that sometimes it should be done. Even then, I'm not a big fan of giving human beings numerical ratings -- especially on something so incredibly subjective. How much more subjective can something get than some of the most intimate possible of human activities? Having been intimate with a woman would be sufficient grounds to recuse oneself from judgment in most arenas.

But, when I review on TER, because that is how the game is played, I'll assign honest numbers to the best of my ability. For appearance, I compare the woman to actresses and models in her reported age group. If she looks as good as a popular actress or model of that age, she's a 9. For performance, I base it on my reaction during and for the next day or so after the appointment.

And, as mentioned, I have had yet another "10" experience. (I haven't written the review yet. It's a work in progress.) I have seen four providers that could be assigned a 10. (2 of my reviews were downgraded by TER from 10 to 9) In each case, the cause for the 10 was different.

What I'd like is to get other folks' take on what, to them, has made an experience a 10. Providers who have been given 10's might also explain what they believe earned a 10.

Also, my method of choosing who to see is extremely unorthodox. My most recent appointment, for example, was with a lady whose reviews I never read so I had no idea what to expect walking in. I had selected her based solely on my perception of her personality, common intellectual and (believe it or not) political interests. Yet, the sex was better than sex.

Have other hobbyists who have had "10" experiences encountered them largely by accident, or as a result of applying a particular methodology to deciding who to see? Are there any other unorthodox methods being employed that result in superior appointments more often than not?

Thoughts?

Just, in my opinion, even though no one asked, the only fair way to do it is to get rid of the numeric scoring process and have 2 simple questions:

Are the photos accurate?
Yes or No

Would you see the lady again?
Yes or No

Isn't that enough info, really?

I could never get a 10 because I'm not bi and don't work with other ladies, but I know I've curled some toes in my time.

And once you have a one in lifetime experience, what's left?
If I were a hobbyist I wouldn't want that, because then I would have nothing left to look forward to....?

Disclaimer:
I mean all this in a light hearted spirit as well.

I personally believe it is ridiculous that for a lady to earn a 10 she must either "really be bi" or offer anal sex.

Anal sex is uniquely dangerous; and given the fact that condoms DO break, no woman's score should be dependent on her offering that.

And what difference does a woman's bisexuality (or lack thereof) make when the appointment is one on one? Furthermore, how do I *know* if a woman is "really" bi? Give her a lie detector test?

I consider those requirements to get a 10 ridiculous.

There has been reviews I have given lower numerical scores to on performance do to restrictions put in place by TER then ladies I have given higher scores to that in my opinion just was not as good. I can't really give a "9" or a "10" in performance as I don't ever allow myself to forget it is a service for one second, ever. And no one is better in bed from my point of view than my wife.

I limit my menu, no anal or DFK as I don't like butt play and DFK feels to much like cheating and guilt robs me of my fun. I also could care less if they are really bi (unless I am seeing the lady with my wife) as I want the attention focused mostly on me if I am paying. I am selfish that way. So having to lower a ladies score because she doesn't offer what I don't want does not make much sense to me at all.

It is so subjective. What if the lady offers a great service but we just don't click? Do I lower her score her for it or do I give the benefit of doubt she will with the next guy? One guys 8 is someone else 10. The score are ether overinflated or unfair. The rating system is just flawed. :(

I concur, 100%. Don't need the numbers.
If numbers are insisted upon then the rate should be for what happened in the session that is being reviewed.  Since it says performance rating it should be performance rating not services offered. That is so obviously two different things.

If anyone sees my reviews, I basically, for the most part am a 9-10, 10-10, 9-9 kinda guy.

Why? Because I don't see a lady that I don't believe won't fit into my expectations.

And since we're on the subject, I don't talk or meet with a lady unless I believe they can 'fill' this arbitrary number system.

My money, our time. If you want a stellar review from me, you better work for it. I don't give out 10's like candy, contrary to what most people think.

I take a lot of time in my 'research' as to who I want to see. If the lady pisses me off from the start, she's toast. I don't care how goodlooking she is, or what her reviews say.

The ones that I make an effort to meet, that do the same? Oh fuck yeah! They have my attention!

I'm a picky mother-fucker. Always was, always will be. ;)

As touched on, TER does say in order to get above a 7, the lady has to do or I guess say she will do one of 4 services.

From TER guidelines on how to write a review.
"In order to keep our performance ratings consistent, we set up the following system: An escort provider is only eligible to earn up to a 7, unless she is willing to perform one or some of the following during a session: Kisses With Tongue, Bare-Back Blow Job, Really Bi, and Anal Sex. For each of these services that are offered, her potential max score is raised by one point, with 10 as an absolute maximum."

To me the first 7 are based on (of course) performance, skill, enthusiasm and does she really make me believe that she wants to be with me. Let's face it, the ladies are great at making a 57 year old believe, well at least for the moment.
It also is about what leads up to the moment. How was she during dinner and could she hold a conversation. Many of these ladies have either direct experience and or degrees. They are excellent people to enjoy just listening to them share their stories.

I would hope hobbyist's with more than two reviews figure that out.I have found cross checking reviewers with my numbers, of the same provider is most beneficial, more in looks than performance.I usually receive great service from all providers. Maybe because I am always jolly?.

"Some like the numbers and I guess they think it helps them,"

I am sure it helps me.Without the number system or similar I would be wasting my time reading  a provider's reviews if she  has all F's, with A being Excellent.

To those that think the number system has no value, what would be your method of streamlining the review process. I surely don't want to read reviews that consist of mostly 4's, when aimlessly looking for a provider.
I would be willing to compromise.A B C D E F with D being 5 or less.
I would only read Grade A and B and sometimes C,except on rare occasions.

But I think any numbering system would be.  I wouldn't say its "unfair" though the providers might say so.  I think it's like any other subjective assessment of a very personal event.

Unless I know the reviewer has a value system close to mine (by seeing him rate a number of providers close to how I rate the same women) I put little to no value on the numbers.  The text behind the numbers should tells me the useful stuff I want to know, not the numbers.

The only real value I get from the scores is if a provider has a string of 1s and 2s as a rip-off.

It probably won't ever change much.  Some like the numbers and I guess they think it helps them, but I'd guess the biggest problem with changing now would be the large number of reviews already scored on the current scale.  Ther'd be no easy way to change them over to a new scale.

I've read a lot of reviews and never read one where the experience even remotely sounded like a "one of a kind,"  with one possible exception.  They all sound not only repeatable by the provider being reviewed, but easily repeated by most providers.

I think the main reason behind rating inflation is the fact that a lot of guy unveil their handle to providers and feel they have to rate them over the top.  Once they divulge who they are on TER, they become "married" to them, like moths to a flame.

Holeydiver mentioned, in a recent thread, his 100th review with Angel of MYC. I read it and that is probably the closest I've read to a real 10.  He even had to refer to it as an 11, because of the previous 10s he had given.  So I guess if you doll out 10s, you have to change the scale once you encounter a real 10.

A "10" in the looks or performance scores should be as rare as  a "10" score given in an athletic event. Even "9's" should be extremely rare. I've never given more than an "8", and even most attractive providers warrant no more than a "7" in the looks department. Just one client's opinion, however.

... between menu (i.e. services offered) and performance (how well the offered services are performed)?

Personally, I believe the problem of services vs performance can be solved by separating into categories. This is already done to a degree, but it could be broken out further. You could differentiate on the basis of service offerings into categories such as "massage," "sensual massage," "limited GFE (missing bbbj, daty or dfk)", "full gfe (everything but anal)" and "pse."

That way, when a lady's services were rated, they would be rated within the category of services she provides. As it is, it is apples and oranges. It makes no sense to me to compare a sensual massage lady to a full gfe lady. It might be that both are 9s or 10s /within their respective specialties/, but the sensual massage lady gets penalized just for being what she is; which seems pretty ridiculous to me.

Although "Once in a Lifetime" should be changed - too illiteral.

1-10 may be subjective, but no more so than anything else, and isn't 1-10 is the accepted system? At least TER applies some science to some grades at the top end, excepting whether you feel being 'truly bi', DFk or anal should be requirements. In theory at least, some consistency.

I also grade fairly - good and bad. I do have concerns that I may end up on a DNS list (does that stand for Do Not See?), but so far so good. I'm fine with high scores as well as low, but when we consciously or subconsciously trade scores for favor, we've sold out.

I believe that, overall, the numbers as applied to *appearance* have value.

That is because, in study after study, men consistently apply the same standards of beauty. Sure, those scores may be one point off in either direction, but they are pretty close.

So outside of personal preferences (i.e. maybe you prefer blondes whereas I prefer brunettes, etc.), I believe appearance scores between ordinarily rational people are pretty predictive +/- 1 point.

On performance though ... I admit I don't know. I only see providers as myself, so I have no earthly clue what any other guy's experience is actually like. There aren't any studies on it, and there is a huge ymmv factor to boot. I presume that ymmv can be positive and not just negative; so it can have a huge effect on scores, as can the obviously biasing effect of the fact you are rating a woman with whom you have had sex.

From my point of view, you're over valuing the BJ, as if it were a super menu item instead of just one of many.  For some of us, the BJ is nothing more than an entree to the main event; nice but not the be-all or end-all of the experience.  I'm sure that many agree with you, but to each his own.

All we can do is evaluate the overall experience per our own appearance and performance criteria ............. and ultimately, how does it rate on our personal feel good chart.  For me, I have found that I rank a nearly equal number of safety vs non safety girls in my top rated category.  I guess that I should consider myself lucky to be able to enjoy a wider range of providers, which gives me a lot more to choose from.

I've seen reviews where they just kissed he daty'ed, got a cbj and they did a few positions and showered together and that got a 10.  I've never gotten a 10 sometimes I think looks can affect ratings but hey maybe i'll have to literally start given oral on a handstand while juggling with the other to get one lol.

only one 10..giving 9 for exceptional performances and less exceptional will merit 8 or less..if hobbysts would stop giving 9s at will and start giving such vote for exceptional performances and looks then the 10 will make more sense for that performance and look that is just off the chart.

I've given out 4 10's on performance out of 21 reviewed sessions thus far.  Each had various performances that I felt were worthy of 10's (one was a doubles session, one was a PSE experience, one was a role play, and one was a GFE experience).  The overwhelming reasons for each was how the lady played with my mind in the session.  That is the way that I can value a 10 performance.  While the other ladies I have seen all had their respective positive moments, I need that mind game to really put me over the edge in a session.  It would be unfair for me to simply say that a lady gives the best BBBJCIMNQ and translate that into a 10 for performance if there is no other connection going on for me.  As much has been written on the ladies needing the mental connection to really enjoy sex (with their SO), I think that for those of us here who are looking for more than just a quickie (and to me an hour is just that), that mental stimulation can take what might have been a rather ordinary afternoon into that mind blowing (as well as other things blowing as well) area that creates an illusion that lasts for days.

I also don't just meet ladies without doing rather extensive research on who they are and what I can expect.  The reviews can give me an insight into the lady's psyche, at least on a minimal level, and if I am fortunate enough to really connect the entire experience is usually awesome.

I have been in the position(s), lol, that you're not privy to everything when I write a review.

I write what I think you need to know. I leave out shit because their scores in performance would be upwards of 12-15 in some cases.

Sorry. But I stand by my previous statement to Johngalt. The most I can give is a '10'. And of course, a lot of those '10's reflect from other guy's reviews, so that's why they get '10s' from the powers that be when they read and ulitmately post our reviews.

So, I definitely have high standards. I'm not one of those guys that waste their time shopping CL, BP, and the like just to get their dick wet. I use this site, mostly, because of the quality of the ladies that advertise and post on here.

I'd much rather wait a few weeks, months, whatever, and see who I want to see than just pick someone and write a fucked up review because of it. It's a waste of time and money, in my opinion.

I wasn't trying to make a suggestion to change things, just saying i find them of little value.  If you and others do as a screening tool, great.  Keep using what works for you.

I should've probably elaborated:  for me I do most my scouting, screening, and deciding before i look at reviews.  I only read the reviews to see if they mention something significant that I missed before.  For that the words written about her matter far more to me than the numbers.

John, as usual I find it hard to disagree with your points.  Appearance scores are likely more standardized, but I'm not sure they are as independent from the performance scores as they should be.

A few years ago I had to take a statistics course and for one of our homework projects I looked at the correlation of TER looks and performance scores (I claimed they were something quite different of course).  There was a very definate bias towards equal scores, i.e. 1/1, 6/6, 7/7, 9/9, etc.  Certainly not 100%, but quite strong enough to show they weren't independent by a long shot.  We men seemed to up a woman's looks if she performed well (maybe there was a desire not to offend her with a low looks score), OR we inflate performance if we like the way she looked.

It was most noticably skewed by the lack of scores like 9 for looks, 5 for performance.  There were some 9/1 scores for rip-offs, but generally if a reviewer thought she was hot looking he also thought she was skilled.

Not critsizing your definition of what's important but others would say "if there's no DFK it shouldn't be more than an 8", or "if she won't do greek that should drop it 3 points", or "the only thing that raises her score above a 7 is if she can do a backflip while I'm inside".

In essence you want to redefine what the scores mean based on your preferences, and to one degree or another that's just what many guys do.  But if I don't value BBBJ or DATY or eye contact more or less than you than I would want MY preferences to set the standard, etc.

The list of activities should be just that, the list of activities.  And then the performance score can focus on how well, and take out some of the subjectivity associated with what activities you like vs someone else.  If CBJ is a killer for you then hopefully guys write an accurate activity list and you can decide from that.
