Anything written after this has to be taken in context of that beginning. He is not asking if he should buy her something and take her out in public to do it. He is asking about complying with her request (the favor) if it meant being seen in public with her. His example may not be clear but his topic sentence makes it clear what he is asking. With this understanding buying her a gift card would not be the proper response to her request. That would be akin to her asking him to call her a cab and he says here is a Visa gift card. Nice but not what she asked.
Your question of why would he ask for compensation is a good one. If he does decide to do her a favor why would he consider compensation. He may have merely thrown that out there as fodder for comment or maybe he does think even if it's a favor compensation is a consideration. I agree when you said this: "If you need a reward, then it's not a 'favor' in the first place."
I first thought he was going to go on about if he were seen in public with her there could be repercussions but he didn't say that. (Though I still think that's what he is concerned about I can't assume I'm right since he doesn't specifically say so.)
To answer the OP. I would have no problem complying with a request like this from one of my favorites if it was possible for me to. I have done so a few times.
If the OP's concern is about being "seen" by someone since everyone's situation is different I can't say. As for me, I am retired, single, and don't have anyone that would care if I were seen in public with a young or younger woman. I have many friends both male and female (young and old) from my former career. We often get together for lunches/dinners and so on and my family knows this. Any question could be answered as she is one of them. I don't care what anyone thinks when they see me with a provider while out and about. My family doesn't know I frequent escorts but someone asking: Hey, who was that lady/woman I saw your Dad with? wouldn't be a problem.
No I wouldn't expect compensation and would likely turn it down if offered. I would not let it become a regular thing though.

I've been seen in public with her. I take her to Dinner and Shopping every now and then. When we do go it's not in her immediate area around her home. Too much chance of being seen by her Friends and Family. She wants to go to Toys R Us to buy Gifts for her kids. Will go with her on this event.

I say why not help them out. If anyone you know sees you just tell them it's a friend, which is true.
Probably the determining factor would be, have you trusted them enough to tell them your real name. Because that's the kind of thing that would come up if you ran into anyone you know.
If you want to help her out, see her a couple of extra times . . . She gets more $ and you get more attention. Like London says, this is a real simple biz - don't complicate it!!

Just to answer question straight up. I have taken providers to Macy’s, Dinners, Malls, Apple Store, AT&T phone store, Best Buy, etc. Guess what, not single sales person or cashier in any of those places asked, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH A PROVIDER?
We also passed, probably, 100 passer, they did not ask, WHY ARE YOU TAKING A PROVIDER TO MACY’S and paying for her dress? Don’t recall the cashier or my bank asking the question when I put it on my Debit Card.
perhaps you missed the point of S.O.'s..... Sometimes at this time of year their are maybe 1 or 2 people shopping and maybe ....I know it's a stretch but just maybe someone might be concerned about someone they know seeing them in civvie land which was exactly what was originally posted. It was a simple question and it provided much relief from the squirting , am I Big enough and does she love me that we usually see ....
