I think the best way, is to siphon off money that you can normally be expected to spend in the course of a week for lunches, entertainment, incidentals etc., and build up a routine where you normally take out X dollars a week from an ATM and your wife comes to expect that.

Then learn to live with spending a significant amount of that money and siphon it off to your hobby fund.

That way there is never any suspicious withdrawal, etc.

Now if you are married to a suspicious CPA, you've got a problem.

You'd be amazed though how many guys I meet at work that have to hand the whole paycheck over to the meme every week and then ask for an allowance and justify every little thing they spend it on.

Back to my spongebath

I told mine that we will maintain separate accounts and have one combined for household. Every once in awhile she throws a fit that we are separate, but I hold my ground. She is a major control freak!

I get extra by siphoning off lunch money, intercepting some refund checks, gym reimbursements, I also got a part time job tutoring and told the wife it was volunteer work, I set up a pass book account that does not send me statements in the mail and got direct deposit with the tutoring company, cut a deal with my daughter ( we're really close) where I buy her a bus transpass on the credit card and she gives me half that in cash, also started gambling, got an allowance for that but then I only gamble when I go to Vegas.  Best part about that I've been winning in Vegas so I'm still using the casinos money (I set up a separate account for that as well). I also read tarot cards and charge for that, and do taxes for friends.

I have 3 computers that mine Bitcoins 24/7. With about 6800 megahashes/sec of decrypting power, I generate roughly 5 Bitcoins per day, and each Bitcoin can be sold for $6-7 at the moment.  Granted, the entire mining farm costs me an extra $200/mo in electricity to run, but I still come out ahead.

Now if I could only find providers that accept Bitcoins directly....

but as a retired guy, I aso just get a couple of checks each month.  YES any incentives & rebates don't get deposited.  But everyone needs "pocket cash".  I doubled mine (everything costs more these days.  Even coffee at that Star place.)   I can't normally go "hog wild" but I can come up with enough for a nice meeting once a month.  If you are going to play this game you need to gradually introduce new activities that she probably won't care for.  Hunting, fishing, bicycling, trips to the gym, stamp collecting...  (You might have to go to pawn shops or other stores...     Tell her she's welcome to come but odds are she won't.  It has to fit your life.

I had a strange occupation for a while, and stashed the money offshore. I never mentioned its existence to the wife. A couple of times a year I bring some back onshore, and use those for hobbying.

drink water instead of soda for lunch. Already been said but any refund or reimbursement checks get cashed and stashed. Other income such as rental checks sometimes get cashed instead of deposited.

Crazy, I've never heard of Bitcoins. I wouldn't take them as payment... sorry :p

Being a people person my wife knew I would be needing to do something and not stay home all day. If I did, I might find out she was doing the neighbor! Back to reality. I am in realestate. I need a business account to keep track of business expences, my commissions are direct to that account. When I am out showing property, she understands I can't me interrupted while with customers. If necessary she texts but knows not to expect an immediate response. Limited sales, limited hobby visits

Mine's easy. After paying bills whatever I have left over for booze, smokes and food are necessary. I'm lucky enough whatever money I spend on getting my dick wet goes a loooong way, if you know what I mean...

I get a pension check and a Social Security check each month.  I leave some of the SS money in my checking acct and put some aside in a special savings acct for playing.   I use it for cruises, the obvious, and whatever else I want it for.

Being single I control the money. When I was married though I still controlled the money. That's just the way it was. I didn't hobby then but did spend money at strip clubs.
I, like swim, am retired. Retirement check pays the bills. My fun part time job pays for the hobby.

I saved money back a week at a time.  Have same situation with oversight of financial situation except neither of us are retired and income stream is still going strong.  Started carrying cash in wallet and once the s.o. got used to this it was no problem to save a hundred back a week. Especially after the pile got to be 6 or 7 hundred. This was something new for me as I always just charged everything before.  Can't go crazy but slow and steady.  I only have purchased this kind of entertainment once, so in that end I do not have a lot of experience.  (Plan on carefully continuing).  Incidentally, I had been spending more money on an acquaintance with gifts and outright handing money to her once in a while just as a friend with benefits type of thing.  This seemed to be very risky  since we all worked together and did not pay off often.  I figured over a year I probably went thru about 1800 bucks and got laid 3 times.  With the risk and expense it was too much. It is safer and cheaper to do the hobby thing but I am very new at this.  Got a burner phone and stay anonymous.  Careful with phone.  Good luck and be careful and vigilant.

Bunch of servers running full time, hosting various kinds of services.

Recently sold one service for a decent chunk of change. Could've gotten more if I waited til next year but I needed some more hobby funds, right now this minute... not next year. Clearly, I was thinking with my dick but no regrets cuz sometimes a man needs to think with his dick too.

Besides, I'm selling another one soon just waiting til there's bubble or to the first sucker who will pay top dollar.

I plan on being like one of the mods here, hobbying til my dick falls off.
