I was thinking back to my first encounter with a Web-advertised provider (two at once it was, actually, though the experience proved a bit of a disappointment).  I forget the name of the agency, but I believe it was the very first to advertise in my state via the new medium, late in the last century.  And that got me to thinking that it is getting to be time that someone more experienced and informed than I should compose and share a history of the Web era of the oldest profession.
