A red light district in the shadow of closed plants. Makes me cringe, is that what we've come to as a society? You're right, if plant closing is perfectly legal why not decriminalize its by-product? With sex & politics being 2 sides of the same coin, you'd have to convert into hobbyists guys like Pat Robertson & Jerry Falwell before the profession is decriminalized....
You're right that the demand for sex is inexhaustible. For a good reason it's been dubbed the oldest profession!
to downsizing, regulation or job exports to 3rd world countries- in short a shining example of free market forces at work!
Downsizing? ridiculous to say the least in this day & age of body part augmentation(except for the naturally endowed ladies)......
Regulation? No gov.agency breaths down your necks to regulate you through trade fees, body frame inspections and the like....other than LE who occasionally like to join in the act for their own perverse motives!
Job exporting? Probably the only profession where job imports exceed exports by a wide margin keeping a downward pressure on prices-an added benefit to the consumer!
In short, a shining example of free market forces at work.....
is irrelevant from the point of view of the provider. It is a problem for maintaining margins as we business folk like to say. As for the regulation part, being illegal kind of says it all. I doubt any provider relishes the idea of giving away themselves free to avoid arrest. You are right that this may be a shining example of market forces at work, but even on a good day that can suck. Problem is, as bad as that is, I doubt there is any better.
Downsizing: escorting is feast or famine. In general, they never know when the next appointment is going to come in. Some top, well rated ladies don't get appointments for a month or more. You might compare that at least to a lay off.
Regulation: "other than LE?" That's certainly a major agency breathing down their necks. The fact that most ladies have to take extraordinary measures to keep from being arrested, including indulging their regulators occasionally. Have you missed the fact that escorting per se is legal, but that most cities have very strict licencing requirements about it, and the penalties for violating them are often worse than the charges for prostitution?
Job export: I wouldn't count the import of slaves as job imports. I also wouldn't count the trafficking in teenage girls. Yes, enslavement is, in short market-forces at work.
What country are you living in? Trysters are hardly the "only profession where job imports exceed exports." Have you looked at the numbers of hispanic construction workers these days? I'd say some jobs were imported there. Barbers, dentists and doctors jobs will never move overseas. For years, the US has had to "import" engineers.
Please check a few of your facts before you post them. They are not as self-apparent as you think.
I was kind of amazed that the OP say what he did, given that he seems to have a decent grasp on the Pol Board.
Oh, and don't even get me started on how short the career span of providers can be, the burnout factor, the fact that "the right to refuse service" can have more dire consequences in this industry than almost any other, the health issues of more intimate interaction with strangers than even nurses, the lack of "paid benefits", the need for secrecy from family and friends for many providers, the self-image issues when constantly reviewed on your appearance, the expenses of the business that so many clients take for granted, etc., etc., ad nauseum.
Yeah, it is more interesting on the surface than sitting at a desk all day, and damn, how well I know that one. And yes, there are possibly many providers who love what they do, in spite of these issues. However, I doubt most men would trade for it, though, if they had to endure the same scenarios the ladies do, to include seeing clients who you aren't interested in, find appealing, or perform well in bed. It may sound nice on the surface, but surfaces are usually deceiving.
go a month or more without an appointment". What top rated ladies are you talking about? And what planet are you on? That's the most brain dead statement I've heard in a while. It's simply not true in the least. I hobby in NYC, Chicago, Florida, Atlanta, and Montreal. The best reviewed girls generally have to turn business away.

first off, you missed your target.
Second off, he said SOME..."Some top, well reviewed ladies..."
Third off, I have known a couple women in that situation myself. Some CAN'T work as much or market themselves as aggressively as the ladies you seem to frequent, for reasons as varied as personal commitments, health issues, market location, or scheduling conflicts, so they don't just always have a steady stream of clients that they can cherry pick from. So, while it may not be the general rule, there is some truth to it for some women.
As for brain dead, no, I think that thread a ways back about the "most hilarious thing I ever heard" still takes top honor.
I know what they told me, but it is not my information to give away. It's theirs to tell who they choose to.
I will point out that I have seen a few ladies complain about the "feast-or-famine" aspect of this in open forums.
Any further reference to this will be ignored.
depending on where you live. Yes, some providers don't have to worry about this as much as others (I will agree with you on that one), but most of us well-reviewed providers, too, have barren spots of employment. Sad but true! Believe me, I'm a well-reviewed provider and this is true!

of this hobby - or for that matter - this planet... oh well.
Most of the down time though can be attributed to men calling at the last minute when I already have plans with personal friends. I love it when they say, "I just flew into town - sorry." Hello! You knew you were going to be in town, do some research first. Oh well, what can a girl do? Or -- better yet -- call at 3 a.m. when they're drunk and horny. Like I'm really going to answer the phone?

Ciara
MSD, I wasn't trying to convey that it's a peaches & cream occupation. My reference to downsizing was meant to convey that many fine ladies in this profession, with fine educations have no recourse in our economy but to become providers....
That makes more sense, and I can relate better than you know.
You're right, it's interesting how economic stress may finally force prostitution into decriminalization in this country.
(When I say "may" I don't mean to say it's the most likely outcome, or that this will do it alone.)
It is ironic that in my former hometown, the red light district is spread out across several old suburbs, and exists in the shadow of closed plants.
Trysters are no more greedy than any other profession, but they are women who discovered by and large that nothing was going to trickle down to them unless they did something drastic.
There was an unmet demand for sex in this country. Meanwhile, the internet both made things easier and reduced a lot of the the risk. Since the average male in his prime will have sex as many as he can, there is a lot of excess sexual energy for providers to work on. It will be very hard to saturate this market.
It will be truly ironic if economic conservatism leads to social liberalization. It will put a wedge between the two poles of conservatism if that's the case.
Apologies that I misundertood the slant of your post so badly, but you were careless about what you sited to make your point.

I'd have a different view.BTW, as to scientists & engineers are you aware that many multinational corps. actually pick much cheaper brains by setting up "research centers" all over the world- a net brain drain on the US.
Have you tried counting the no. of reviews/ month/provider on TER? Assuming an average rate I found the same spread that exists in the society at large:Feast for some,mid-to-low income for others and yea, famine for some-a free market economy...
Sure, each provider encounters difficulties maintaining their job but don't we all?
The dirty little secret of that is they not only work for less, but they do a better job.
But the US is still "importing" engineers, though the most important work is being done in research centers overseas.
Regrettably, I can't really follow your last paragraph. Have I tried counting the no. of reviews/month/provider? Do you mean following a providers' reviews and counting them per month? Do you mean counting up all providers' reviews? Are you saying I should have checked what I was told against the review evidence?
I agree that the same thing exists in society at large.
You've explained the slant of your original post. I'll put up an answer to it. It does clarify you very well.
I just did a cursory "unscientific" check of some providers in "major markets" by counting # of reviews/month x an assumed average of $$$ per visit. I'm glad we're now in sync.
"Downsizing: escorting is feast or famine. In general, they never know when the next appointment is going to come in. Some top, well rated ladies don't get appointments for a month or more. You might compare that at least to a lay off."...I would call it like being a consultant!!!!!!
that's not entirely true. Yes, we may have a better schedule (at times) than the normal 9 to 5er and I'm very thankful for that, but most of us still claim taxes (that is, if we want to own stocks or property); inflation because hobbying is one of the first things to go when gas prices are high or people are out of work; the holidays because people are spending it on their families (and rightfully so); and if competition rapidly expands in a town with too many pots (escorts) in the kettle. There are a lot of things that people don't account for in this business. Remember, it cost to be pretty, too. There's the manicures (if we get them), the haircuts, the makeup, the stockings and costumes/lingerie, tanning (if you do this), travel expenses (if driving, not flying, to see a client who lives 50 miles away), etc. However, to answer your question, yes I feel lucky to have the hours I do and the flexibility, albeit I have other work in my life that consumes it, too.

who can't get a job in her field 'cause jobs in her field have been downsized and/or exported to lower wage countries, forcing her to become a provider.Wouldn't she count her blessings to be a provider? I know Ciara that you're in it for the fun... even lots of it, plus a few investments here & there...that's why you're exceptional! lol

the $$$ too, darlin'. I'd be lieing (and most women would be,too) if I said otherwise. But yes, I enjoy meeting new people all the time and having them cum over to dine out. Tee-he! What a contradiction, eh? I crack myself up sometimes. HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
I think a lot of them are surprised to find a high degree of job satisfaction with it.
A few of them were going to be having sex a lot with a lot of partners anyway and found that the best way to go about it was by getting paid. To do otherwise would have been very destructive to them. IMHO, many times these women become some of the very best providers.
And a few of them got into it by accident. One day a guy paid them after having sex, and they found that they could enjoy sex much better that way. This category isn't really distinct; it overlaps a lot with the other two categories.
Why does anyone one work? Money!!!!
Please....... Yes our occupation has pluses, and but every job does. And there are some negatives. Most guys I found think we get 8 hours of appointments a day for 5 days a week. That is simply not true. It took me ten years to be comfortable and where I want to be in this Business. But make no mistake it is a business, especially since with boards like this one reputation can be everything. As in every job, reliability, honesty, value, quality, finding your niche market, being on time, clean, friendly attitude, , good manners, phone etiquette, sales, marketing, computer skills, all go into being successful no matter what you do for a living.
So just because you guys have a good time, dont think that time you spend with us is all that we do in order to work. There is alot that goes on behind the scenes to be successful or profitable.

The defensiveness in the title of your post has me mystified. I meant nothing critical in what I said. It doesn't bother me that almost always women will get into the sex industry because of the money. I did say that I thought many of the better ones in the business were sex freaks before they ever considered sex for pay. I meant to say that if they are three percent of trysters, and they make up 15 percent of the best ladies, they work above their shear numbers, is what I meant. And that was just my conjecture. Definitely, a high sex drive is usually an advantage, but not in the absence of other necessary skills or discipline. Yes, there is more in the mix to become a success.
I would never make the mistake of thinking that a shift-mistress's total pay is your hourly session rate times eight hours a day. I can see and appreciate the prep that goes into it a session, and what must be done to maintain your physical and mental health.
In some ways, your profession is just like any business, but when you get down to it, it's like no other business. It's full of paradoxes. Yes, it's all about the money, but if it weren't all about the sex, it wouldn't be all about the money.
we could just go to a bar every night. This type of profession gives us an income and hopefully references to help keep us safe.

Ciara
