the final fate of the coffeeshops. Effective January 1, they will be required to go smokeless. They will still be able to sell marijuana and hash over the counter, but the customer will have to smoke at home. The coffeeshop owners(a vocal political force in the Netherlands) have asked for an appeal on the ruling. At the present time it doesn't look good for this fine tradition, as the anti-smoking(tobacco cigarettes)legislation imposed is similar to California's law in that it is fairly comprehensive and exclusions to indoor smoking are very limited. There is some hope though since a couple of reports have shown a rather negative economic impact and significant loss of tax revenues. We will be going around Thanksgiving to our favorite coffeeshop. We have gotten to know the owners well over the years and they are pretty upset, as it just won't be the same if this law does go into effect.

Do you have a link for a news article about this ??
