* Chinese moles *
I have been asked more than once why Chinese men allow a single strand of hair to grow out of the mole on their faces.

I was initially horrified by this practice since I do not remember or know of any Chinese men (despite being Chinese myself) who do so. Surely, it’s only the Chinese from China doing that? No, the older generation of Singaporean Chinese do it too!

Just as bizarrely, it took a Caucasian client to explain to me that the Chinese consider it good luck to maintain the hair growing out of their face moles.

###

* Why Asians have wide feet *
A Caucasian client once pointed to my feet and remarked how wide they were.

He went on to explain that Asians generally have wider feet because
1) they are traditionally farmers who worked on padi fields barefooted (so genetically they go on to give birth to children with wider feet)
2) custom of taking off shoes at home (It is considered rude in most Asian cultures to wear your shoes at home)
3) Asian kids do not usually wear shoes until perhaps of school going age (Read 2: When at home, they don’t wear shoes. And even if they were going out, they might opt for slippers or sandals which are more comfortable).
There is some truth in what he said.

###

* Real Carrot Cake *
I am accustomed to introducing Singaporean delicacies to my overseas friends and enjoy doing so. The single most confusing dish has to be the Carrot Cake.

My western friends are adamant that the Chinese dish we called Carrot Cake ought to be called something else because it does not look like the western Carrot Cake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrot_cake). Surely it doesn’t contain carrots? Next they would question that we, the Chinese, stole the name from the westerners.

For as long as I can remember growing up, Carrot Cake was the Chinese version (http://www.lifestylewiki.com/Fried_Carrot_Cake). That was until I grew up and learnt that a different kind of Carrot Cake, which looked and tasted differently, existed.

They both have carrots and are justified in being called Carrot Cake. Just as a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, it is but just a name. My western friends who fail to get their head around it would look perplexed and seemingly allow it to affect even their appetite.

Moles freak me out.  My mom's best friend had a hairy mole on her chin, she insisted on calling it a beauty spot.  It's a wonder that I didn't start associating the word "beauty" with "gross".

I've know about six Asian women with whom I was intimate enough to massage their feet, but I don't ever recall noticing that their feet were any wider than the average woman's I see.  I do notice, however, that they tend to have wonderfully formed arches, and that is something to behold.  (I'm into feet.)

The widest pair of feet I have ever beheld belonged to a Jewish gal pal of mine, they had to be 12 EEE and she was only about 5' 2" and 90 pounds!  I told her that she should really remember to take a parachute with her when she goes sky diving.

As for the carrot cake, I've never been a fan, but for you, Jade dear, I'd eat anything and call it carrot cake just to have a chance to behold you in the flesh.  :o)

No comment on the moles.
The carrot cake is different then ours. I have the fried variety, which is outstanding.
I am not a foot man, but it's true. The Asian foot is generally wider. I jokingly bust my SO's chops about the width of her feet. Needless to say, I do not buy her shoes as a gift.

In order for natural selection to play a role genetically in wider asian feet in accord with Darwin, there would have to be a corollation to a) higher survival rates due to more efficient rice paddy cultivation, or b)a mate selection preference for paddle feet.  Empirically, I know of no evidence of a) and it is fact that Chinese cherished small feet in women to the point of binding and crippling them.

Apparently the evolution of the creaseless asian eyelid was for white dudes to want to fuk asian girls, and for jewish girls to want to marry asian dudes to piss off their parents.

Bring this up. I have a mole at the end of my "eye brow" above my left eye. It's a pretty mole, not too big, not too small, it just adds something to my face. Well I get my brows waxed and invariably the girl who does my brows (nails and toes too) never plucks the hair out of  my mole. It's not that it's gross, it's just, well, kind of gross to me.

So the other day I ask her for some tweezers and she says "For what?"

"So I can pluck the hair out of this mole you never pluck"

"Oh, You can't do that! You will have bad luck!"

"No I won't honey, I have to....have you seen the way this looks?"

"Okay but don't say I didn't warn you. We believe that it's bad luck to pull hair from a mole."

So it's not just the Chinese. She is Vietnamese. I guess it's not just something the men do either, but the women as well.

Consequently I now have a very hairless mole above my eye and I haven't had any bad luck yet.

I have never noticed wide feet on Asian women, and god knows how i love them [my late SO was...].

I have noticed that most Asian women, no matter how trim and how little body fat they have, seem to have the tiniest bit of extra fat in their tummies.  It's only noticeable when then bend foward, but it is noticeable.  Anyway, I love it.

Let me second thoughtfull's suggestion that you arrange a visit to The Rotten Apple, er,excuse me, The Big Apple.

Those moles/beauty marks can be quite fetching.

No opinion on carrot cake, but please refran from introducung broccolli cake to the Occident.

I've never really noticed the mole thing...

My ATF is Filipino. She has size five feet and they are narrow. I can fit her entire foot in my hand when I give her a foot rub...or suck her toes....yeah, I like feet! She also has a very cute mole or two...with no hair growing out of either of them!

I'm love the chance to compare carrot cake recipes  with you Jade should you ever make it to Boston!

I was gonna post more but then I saw your picture and now I can't concentrate!

No thoughts on hairy moles or wide feet, since that's not what I'm looking at in a woman, and I very much like Asian women. However, whichever type of carrot cake you are serving, you would be having me eating out of your hand. Personally, I think Los Angeles is a better place to visit than NY; or perhaps both.

I think that's called "jet lag"...which I'm suffering from almost constantly.

I find Asians so wonderful.  Generally kind and forgiving of stupid round-eyes, like me, when I offend them by doing something stupid.

I'll admit to not being very good at integrating myself into the Asian society.  I'm too big physically to fit in and I can be loud.  I laugh a lot and tell jokes and usually I get a "huh?" when I get to the punch line! :-)

I like almost all the food and really enjoy the Japanese Saki.  Yikes, you can really get blasted.

But to support one stereotype....Damn, why can't you drive!

And the women are gorgeous.
