Reminds me of the WWII story of the OSS in Southeast Asia.  (OSS was the precursor to the CIA.)  The Japanese, particularly officers, were very sensitive to the smell of fecal material; any hint of it and they would run to change their uniform.  So the OSS developed a spray to similate that smell for the resistance to use.  Theory was that you could disrupt their officer's duties if they were always running to change their uniforms.  While it was reportedly effective, there was actual dung from horses, goats, and cattle all over the place.  Why go to the trouble of putting it in a bottle when all you have to do is reach out for it?
