A back-and-forth I had on a thread below got me to thinking and I don't believe it's been discussed here, at least not in a long time.
What is it about the power of the word "Cunt?"  There's not doubt it's one of the strongest and sometimes offensive words that can be used.  The female version of "the N Word."  But why?  I'm not saying it isn't raw and often used in a demeaning way, especially when used as an expletive ("You cunt!").
On the other hand, I was with one of my favorites a week ago and while we were fucking she yelled out, "Fuck my cunt!" It was hot.  So I guess it's all in the context.
Here are a few more examples, from the thread below:
I called hotplants "a judgemental cunt."  If you read the context it was meant to be provocatively funny.  She didn't get the humor, or the context in which I also called Gambler a "cocksucker."
I also quoted a recent comment by a provider who said she liked to get fucked in her "CUNT," among other orifices.  Clearly it didn't bother her to use the word.
Last, I quoted a few lines featuring a definition of the word lifted from "Lady Chatterley's Lover," one of the great works of 20th century fiction.  Here it is, so you don't have to go looking (Mellors to Lady Chatterley):
"Th'art good cunt, though, aren't ter? Best bit o' cunt left on earth. When ter likes! When tha'rt willin'!'

It becomes a fighting word. So is "prick". There are many words like it.  
 
It is  all contextual.

Guess it's why I always picture "cunt" as derogatory.  Society, through whatever means, has placed the public use of the word "cunt" as a slam word.  Sexually and in the privacy of one's abode, I think it's equally a turn on but if only used by the woman.

Personally; "cunt" evokes thoughts of a scheming, duplicitous female who uses her sexuality too manipulate and hurt.

But if someone calls me The N Word, you'll be blacklisted forever in my book.  
Those two words are most definitely not on the same level, believe me.

Just going to start by saying that it's hard to pick apart the connotation of any word (short of having documented history of said word) because we just take connotations for granted. They have that connotation because...well, they just do...lol.  

A feminist view is that use of that word reduces a woman to "a single body part". Nothing else matters, she can be insulted and disregarded as being a product of that one piece of her body. Even other words are more complex like "bitch" or "pussy" (the latter can be used to insult men as well).

There is a great old film starring Daniel Day Lewis called My Left Foot.

In the movie, Lewis plays a young man who is totally paralyzed from birth except for the use of his left foot which foot empowers him to learn to do all the things in life a man must do and then some.

There is a scene where his caretaker:  A gorgeous young woman whom Lewis have obviously developed a crush on tells Lewis that she is engaged to be married.

The next scene took my soul from the depths of sorrow to the acme of relief.

Lewis, whose character is prone to stutter anyways, goes:

cun, cun, cun, cun, cun, cun...gratulations

Such is the power of the word.

but he has it all wrong, not about Hotplants, she was being a judgmental cunt, but I am certainly NOT a cocksucker, I will confess to being a cuntsucker however. lol

Actually cunt seems to have a lot more power than any other word I can think of except the word "nigger" Some women just go off the rails whenever they hear the word, much more than calling them a bitch or a whore. After a bit of reflection though, I have to admit that while I call many of my friends here a bitch (London) or a whore (Terrilyn) in a good spirited way, but I can't think of anytime that I have ever called a woman a cunt in a "friendly" way.  So  maybe it is not contextual after all?

That doesn't mean others don't. Suppose, the term pussy is more of an endearment term than cunt. If majority of society use term as curse word or as derogatory term, then it becomes one.

For a long time in the English language (when English was largely a Germanic based language), "cunt" was literally the only word used to describe female genitalia,and it wasn't necessarily considered a vulgar word. Then England was invaded and occupied by the French during the Norman Conquest of 1066. Norman French (which was a Latin based language) soon became the only language spoken by the aristocracy and upper classes, while the surf and lower classes were still speaking Old English. Thus, it was considered to be a crude language; Words like "fuck" and "cunt" were (and still are) considered to be the most vulgar words of all, especially when compared to Latin based equivalents like "fornicate" and "vagina.

It's "you're" not "your," dumb-ass.  Keep it up Clowny, "you're" making a fine sprint back into contention for a SPOTY.  I guess we should be grateful "you're" even able to spell cunt.

I've been called the N word by my brothers of another color many times  .  
  They were smiling  , all was well on my side ,  though I don't  return the lingo .
 I did a few times in kind , when I was younger , only with the guys , not the gals ,  no one  
   showed offense .
   In my wisdom and respect I have gained  from age , I now refrain .
     I do see why , justifiably so ,  your feelings on the word are  different than mine  .
    I've called a few guys cunt to their face .  They especially care when they know it's the truth .

Good point Alley. I've heard it used much more in the UK as well, without the same degree of negative connotation we apply to it here in the States. Not so terribly uncommon to call a mate a "cunt" while slapping on the back, laughing and buying him (or her) a pint. Totally different here!
