Saw a doctor and did the usual info stuff.  After 10 million questions he then says we should do a prostrate check because of your age!  WTF I am only 38.  Well let's just say I damn near SH-- my pants which would have been a pleasant experience for him.  Suffering from this pain I wish I would have S--- my pants to make him earn his money.

I also have have female Dr. I personally prefer this and don't think I would ever change back to a male. I have found that its easier for me to have things such as prostrate exams,discuss medical issues with her rather than a male.

Hope you never need a prostate biopsy, where a dildo shoots out a spring loaded needle into your prostate every time the doc pulls a trigger.  Between a dozen and 30 time should do it!

I am not a great fan of doing a screening digitl prostate exam.  Looking for a prostate cancer that way doesn't make the most sense.  (There can be other reasons for a prostates exam, but that is another story.  In that case I usually leave it to a urologist.) While there is controversy, what I think should be done is: get a PSA check at age 40 to establish a baseline.  For high risk people (African Americans, those with a family history of prostate cancer, those on hormone replacement) get a psa every year to detect a significant rise (PM me if you want specific numbers.) In those not at high risk, you may decide to have it checked less regularly until you are fifty then have it checked every year.  e don't know why some people can watch their prostate cancer without consequence while others watch it explode.  Until there is better knowledge (for my colleagues, I know about the recent study of bio markers, but the data are not clear enough IMHO.) it is probably better to treat a prostate cancer as soon as it is detected.
By the time you can feel a prostate cancer, it is no longer very very early (though often sitll treatable.)

I see an endocrinologist, a cardiologist, a dermatologist, and a urologist who are all female.  Nothing to do with fingers, they were just the best around for me when I was looking. The urologist gave me the best advice about my prostate cancer ten years ago, the dermatologist looks all over my naked body once a year to make sure I don't have an early malignant melanomas, and the cardiologist and endocrinologist are there when I need them for specific problems.

...is not entirely physical.  That doctor's finger is smaller than your bowel movements.  The reason it hurts so much is the mental and emotional resistance to being penetrated.  And if we want to get all Freud on this, we store a lot of emotion anally.  There's a reason we call disagreeable people "tight-asses."  If you work through it, prostate stimulation can invoke very intense orgasms for men including multiple orgasms.

I'm almost 52 and I've been getting an annual prostate exam since I turned 40. While I admit I like it much better when this hot Asian chick I see in NYC sticks a finger up my ass, the REAL prostate exam just isn't that bad!

Ok here is the thing about anal sex....it takes a required skill set to really enjoy recieving AND GIVING it...and it is not for everybody. This had the effect of multiplying the intensity about ten fold, and I started coming back to see her frequently.

Some years later my MD decided it was high time for me to start getting annual prostate exams, so the turn around, bend over and snap of the glove scene began.  Afterwards he said:  "Now that wasn't so bad was it?"  I responded:  "I've had better."  He almost fell over laughing.

PSA tests tell nothing...the false positives, and negatives cause more worry than any good they do. As far as prostate exams, why bother?  Unless you just can't urinate anymore, there is no reason to do anything about it.  The biopsy methods used can cause more harm than the lesion itself. Besides outrageous anal bleeding, impotence, infection, and permanent prostate damage, let alone the pain, they are just cruel.  And for what?  If there is a maligancy found, one of two things will occur.  You will either live longer than it takes a slow growing cancer to kill you, or you are already so advanced with a rapid growing malignancy, that you are dead anyway.  The treatment for prostate cancer is archaic, brutal, basically ineffective, and leaves the patient with a horrible quality of life! Look how well Paul Neuman, did, or Patrick Swayze is doing. Neuman refused treatment, Swayze took it.  Doyou think he'll survive longer than Neuman, and if he does...does he have any quality of life compared to Neuman?
I could go on for days on this...but in the end...this is one cancer best let to to what it will do....and NOT torture a patient to POSSIBLY get him on a list of "survivor" statistics !

I've never found mention that either started or involved the prostate. You must be talking about cancer treatment in general although your general tenor of there is no good prostate treatment made me question this probability.

BTW, Swayze has already died (Feb. 19th, 2009)

Stop being such a pussy.  One of those exams saved my life.  My cancer is gone and I still can get it on.  If you think that finger hurt what do you think it is going to feel like when the cancer spreads to your bones because you were such a pussy now.

treat one.......let the other go!  Assuming they BOTH have a slow growing malignancy...the treated person will die from the surgery, chemo, and/or radiation long before the untreated one will die from the cancer....and he will be MUCH more miserable!  Assume it's a fact growing, metastisized malignancy...it's pretty much a tie, neither will go long as that type prostate cancer is not treatable to any extent.

It's just a fact of life, and why the entire issue of treating and even screening is getting a very CLOSE second look!

the facts are that there are a large number of men with early easy to discover prostate cancer that is 99% curable by very tolerable treatment with relatively low side effects.  Unfortunately we don't yet know how to tell who is going to have a totally quiescent cancer and who is going to develop metastatic cancer.

Failing a full discussion, every man at afe 40 and again at 50 should discuss this with his physician.  

Incidentally, I was treated for prostate cancer 10 years ago and have no incontinence and get effective long lasting erections and have a psa (10 years after treatment) that is less than 0.05. As a little bonus, my very shrunken nubbin of a prostate is like a little male g spot when it is stimulated.

who can be cured by therapy but who will have metastatic Cancer if it is left long enough.  A closer look is corrected, but while experts are looking, and I am on a panel that is part of this re look, it is best to do the safer thing until all the facts are in.

Mine stems fron not only the studies I've participated in, but experience with friends. A friend of mine very hesitantly had the biopsy done after the MD found an "irregularity".  I'm sure you are aware that the biopsy is a 6 stick procedure.  He had some bleeding that night, called the MD and was told no problem, that's normal., Heavier the second night, MD said the same thing, third morning he woke up in a pool of blood that had drained out of his ass, went to ER, ended up in an emergency surgery. He Almost Died!
He's now impotent, and incontinent.  The biopsy was negative, and so is his outlook on the entire medical profession!
