I think you are fixating too much on...

a lot of mostly bewhiskered terms for providers where you should fixate on categories like MILF, girl-next-door, PYT, etc.

You've spoken on this before, but I don't think you are taking the evolutionary aspects into account.

Long term pairing was essential for the development of large brain creatures. The more we evolved into thought based versus instinct based creatures (and thereby increased our options to survive in the changing world) the more we needed long childhoods with parents around to pass on the knowledge of survival.

The societal overlay on this existing motivation was/is intended to improve upon the natural order. There are always cases of abandonment or doubtful parentage (are you really the father?) There is also the historic example of harems and bigamy. Rich men would attract multiple wives. Poor guys were shunned. State enforced monogamy was actually a leveler -- you might consider monogamy a gift to men at the expense of women who would have preferred to be at the table of a rich man than the sole wife of a poor man.

In modern times, marriage is a ticket out of poverty, as two incomes doubles the chance of a successful life. More single women are in poverty than married women, especially single women with children -- including divorced mothers.

So much so that generally I think single mothers are irresponsible in regard to their children.

So the idea that marriage is some sort of irrational dictate from religious nuts really doesn't fit with the history or evolution of humans. It is imperfect like all things human, but it has its good points.

Abolish marriage? Some people like it. It doesn't matter if you consider it rational or good. They like it, they'll do it, and if you make it illegal they will just go underground. And you'll have to send the anti-marriage police around snooping and arresting.
