I do not make a lot of posts nor do I review much although I read most of the original posts and then decide if I want to read some or all of the comments depending on the content of the post. I will most often not even read posts from people I consider ignorant, distasteful or plan stupid. I often see people arguing and or making fun of certain people for what they post. I do not get why you even read their posts in the first place. Many of them just post comments no matter how stupid just for the attention and by arguing and or just reading their posts you encourage more stupidity.

Aliases are not dangerous if you don't put yourself out there, as in posting on the boards and pissing people off. The reason they are allowed is so guys can be honest about some of the nut jobs that would call their wives for a bad review. I've pissed off several I am sure, but don't much care. Takes more than a reference to see me.

   My question however is, what is the value in posting or commenting being anonymous? If you have something to say, then simply say it. Why hide behind another name? I seriously do not see the reason or value in it? As I discover that someone is using an anonymous name I make it a point not to read their post or comments. I am anxious to hear why people post anonymously. Am I the only one that feels this way?    
       
   You can say what you want about me, I am a big boy and can take it as well as dish it out but in my opinion unless someone can offer me valid reasons for someone to post anonymously I think anyone that does is a coward and wish people would simply grow a set and be a man or woman and say what you want to say and be prepared good or bad for the replies. and there are innumerable threads you could have searched to find your answer.  For the record, I have an alias but almost never use it.
First, as some have already said, some guys do not wish their posts and reviews to be connected for obvious reasons.  Some gals don't want their tougher posts to affect their business.
Second, unless you want to go to the trouble of changing your handle, as you post you inevitably build up a reputation.  mrfisher, for example, is known as decent, unflappable, wise and funny.  And when lungman posts, you can also be pretty sure what you're going to get.  So what if you have a question and you don't want people to associate it with your handle?  Something about an STD, or something that might reveal some personal things about your real self, such as issues of sexual performance.  But you need information that only those in this  community are likely to have.
Third, back in the days of multiple aliases many (including management) felt they contributed to the negative tone on the boards and limiting them would improve things.  We can all see how that worked out.
What was lost?  A lot of the fun went out of the boards.  I had nearly 200 aliases.  Most of them were just for fun; were never used to flame and were self-outed.  For example:
Conan The Grammarian: corrected those who mangled the language.
J.EdgarHooker: commented on LE issues.
Repellent Fucktard: was used to tease a senior member with an alias called Fucktard Repellent.
GaGamblersRetardedBrother: was used to tease GaGambler's alias called GaGamblersSmarterBrother.
HirogensMom: was used to play games with a nasty guy called Hirogen who called everyone a mangina.
RubicsPube: just sounded funny.
Get the idea?  They're all gone now, along with a lot of the fun.  And this place is as nasty as ever. Getting rid of one lousy alias won't help
