Man, there are numerous problems you're not dealing with. There are hidden files that log every site you visit. You can't get rid of it by deleting the history or files either. Get one of the commercial programs like Washer to scrub them clean. She could have also installed a hidden snoop program that secretly logs where you go and login names and passwords. Some take screen shots on a regular basis.
These programs are readily available and they will capture all of the things you type on the computer. There is usually a three key sequence to bring up the menu for these such as "control-alt-x". You may want to hunt around on your computer to look for programs that you don't know about.
You can also get to your Windows Task Manager by using the "control-alt-delete" buttons to look for strange processes that are running. If you haven't looked at this before, they may all be strange but most of them actually kind of make sense. If you end an important process your computer will die but you can use the process of elimination to figure out which ones control what things. I used this to find out some annoying pop-ups that were coming up as the result of using Kazaa.
The complete absence of all cookies, temp files and erased history PROVES that you are hiding something. Plus, if you are using IE there are temp files that are normally hidded, but can be viewed if you know how to find them. That's why I use a completely different browser - Opera - to do all my "private" stuff.
My SO is computer challenged so I don't have to worry. I'm sorry I guess that doesn't really help you.
Instead of trying to erase the files in your computer maybe you could erase the files in her head. How about hypnosis? Make her forget all that she knows about the computer.
The odds that she's running some spyware is remote. If she was, you would have been busted much worse than you already have. She would already know your username and password for your account on this site and be in posession of the text of any reviews or discussion posted by you. That's all dependent on the sophistication of the alleged spyware. Some only take random screenshots, the best of them log every keystoke into a file and e-mail them to the snoops e-mail address. Another thing to think about if you choose to install "washing" software is the red flag that would be raised simply by installing it. Sounds like the SO is somewhat tech savvy so if you install a cleaning utility, she'll know for sure you have something to hide. Your best defense is to educate yourself as to where your OS and browser is keeping the files that are betraying you and eliminate them. Also, if the SO is running some form of keylogging software, a good virus scanning suite is definitely in order. first of all, it wouldn't arouse suspicion because it has legitimate uses, unlike the washing software and secondly the virus scanning software sees a keylogger as a trojan horse and will alert to it's presence. I've tested several keyloggers against Nortons antivirus software and eventually they all show up. One more thing. Check the wire from your keyboard to the back of your computer fo anything out of the ordinary. Not all keyloggers are software based. Some are installed between your keyboard and computer and are retrieved physically. Anti virus software doesn't see them.
No spyware is necessary. If you are both using the same logon on the computer (or no logon), then she could not possibly fail to notice that something happened. When you deleted all that stuff, you blew away her history, her preferences, and probably some of her logins to her favorite sites.
As someone else suggested, use a different browser to do your dirty work. Then you can delete the incriminating information with wild abandon.
Or you could make sure each of you logs in as a different user. If she's really savvy or has the admin password, that won't help, though.
that showed up only one time, some months ago. I know she's not running any "spy software" otherwise I would be not amongst the living. I took my licks but things are cool now.
Frankly, I'd just as soon have some sort of blocking software so I CAN"T pull up porn on my home computer. I really don't need it, it's just not worth the hassle, and frankly, I don't like bumming out the old lady with it.
I think what's happenning is when the DSL went down she talked with one of their techs and he had her check all kind of things to get it up and running again. Where ever this shit is showing up, it's part of normal operations rather than something special on her part.
I'm just gonna get something to block porno altogther and beat off to the images in my head. I've got quite an imagination and it imagines how FUCKED my life would get if she ever stumbled on to this site....
