It is so frustrating when I hear from people insisting against email because they want to protect their anonymity! I prefer google has the info rather than law enforcement, SO, employers, and other prying eyes!
Texting is not limited to one device. If someone has hacked your PIN or password, then they can receive and watch your outgoing texts on another device. I really wish ladies would listen to my voicemails when I explicitly say, "don't text" a couple of times. Maddening.
Of course one solution is to get a burner phone, but what do you do if that is found by your SO?
Then someone can also see your calls on another device if "handoff" or forwarding is turned on. Or on any phone, a spouse/ SO could use one of a myriad of spying devices or software to surveil activity on android/iPhones/etc.
My recommendations: 1: either limit contact to email, and provide an number to the escort the day before an appointment and request that they not contact you outside of the time period immediately prior to a date. If you're concerned they may not follow your request, you could block their phone number and only unblock the day of a scheduled date 2: get an old school/non-"smart" phone via a prepaid service and use that for communication. Store it at your office, gym, trunk, or somewhere else that your SO won't be able to sneak through whenever it's not in use. Always keep the phone shut off unless in use.
I'm sorry that you've had problems. If you're not on p411, I'd recommend it as it's easy to contact and schedule through the site and only give out your number right before a date, and request no texts in that communication.
I keep my burner turned-off and hidden in my gun safe... inside an empty ammo box in an ammo can. I take it out when needed, and afterward I delete ALL text and call in it BEFORE I turn it off and go home. I then return it to the gun safe until it's needed the next time.

Your advice is sound. However, I think the OP may be concerned about something like family sharing on iPhones, or someone logging into his iCloud account from another device and seeing copies of texts, etc. If either is a concern, or if you have a snoopy SO, a burner app may be the worst possible choice. It's worse than using your main number, as a random number showing up on (non explicit) text or missed call isn't necessarily going to draw attention/suspicion. A burner app definitely would, if it's an app recognized as such. It's worse than a seperate burner phone in that it can't be hidden away from home, as it's there on his main personal phone. If an SO knows your phones passcode (as most do), they'd be able to check out the burner app messages just as easily as messages on his main phone. The benefit to a burner app would be changing the number as frequently as you like, but that may cause reference problems. Besides, if you're concerned you can always just block numbers after you see a provider and only unblock for pre-appointment communication.
Anyway, I think in a situation like OP's, a burner phone kept turned off and stored away from home is probably the best choice.
