I was on a plane yesterday sitting next to a very hot looking woman for a 6 hour flight.  We got to talking and she asked me about myself, what I do for a living, etc.

Likewise, I asked her about herself and what she does for a living.  She gave me her card and we decided to keep in touch (nothing more because of opposite coasts).

But during this exchange I began to wonder how providers handle situations like that.  If you don't want to say that you're a provider then what line of work do you say that you're in when asked?

Just curious.

I'm working on another career (hopefully) soon for real if I can make the money for classes and I sometimes go into my desire to pursue this as a career change (you know, from my web and temp work)

If I get someone getting to know me better, seeing me around alot and they start to realize I don't do what I claim... I admit to them I'm a phone sex operator but don't like to publicly announce it due to prejudices and that usually satisfies people. Then tell them it's not something I really like to talk about.  Then they don't ask any more questions.

If I'm speaking to a hot gent, I'll tell him I'm a CMT by trade and offer a card.

I'm a CMT by trade so the massage table at my incall is usually my cover. : )

If I'm talking to a nosy neighbor, cling-on or someone that I consider uptight and judgemental, I'll just say I'm a personal assistant.

Then you can tell us if the alias is a gal or a dude.
Technique questions will either follow, or be moot at that point. LOL!

I did see a lady who got a lot of exposure on talk shows because, in the same situation, she'd tell people she was an escort. Opportunity abounds, but no I'd never want it publicly known.

Some of us don't depend exclusively on compensated companionship for income.

I have a small business, and when I start chatting with someone and they ask me what I do, like you, I give them my business card.
