Just curious -- are folks avoiding making appointments on Monday due to the five year anniversary?  

I have found myself avoiding making any social plans, including escort appointments, on the anniversary of these horrible attacks.

If you do that, you just let the bad guys win!  The point is to go on with life as normally as possible.  What can be more life-affirming than a little R&R?  

I flew a week after 9/11.  I will be darned if I let them interfear with my life

...I plan to see my ATF tomorrow.  Also, back on the evening of 9/11/01 I played in a softball tourney.  Most of the major sports announced their decisions to postpone their games later in the week.  A lot of scholastic contests scheduled for that day went on as scheduled.  In talking with my teammates that evening we all felt like it was right to be out on the field.  A year later, on the Sat. before that Monday one of my teammates was killed in a car accident.  We still played two days later b/c we knew that's what he would've wanted us to do (the league was willing to give us a postponement). That was a harder decision to make.  

Life goes on.  No way should we let a bunch of fucking assholes cripple us with fear.  They hate us b/c we have lives worth living.  Don't give them the satisfaction of seeing us "alter" our lifestyles.  My $.02

. . . for one statement: "They hate us because we have lives worth living." Perhaps I don't understand what it means.

delicate about a rockin' and rollin' romp in the hay on this undeniably solemn date... even though intellectually I can certanly appreciate the "don't let them affect our lives" argument.

Sometimes you just have to go with what feels right for you.

but easy to understand in the negative:

"They" obviously do not have "lives worth living" else they would not be so willing to sacrifice their lives for the vague promise of 72 virgins in the hereafter.

Providers all decide to go outside naked all day and make them run for cover...

In fact we were to have a meeting tomorrow, and I requested that the meeting date be changed... why?  not for fear, but out of respect.

On the actualy date 09/11/2001 I gave a lecture that afternoon at an international meeting... so respect, but not fear keeps me subdued.... but maybe I will go for a romp! who knows.

Not all terrorists expect to die. The grunts were taught that there are causes more important than their live. For young "home-grown" terrorists in UK, for example, there was not much of a life. Terrorists, like just about everywhere else, have young people die for old folks' disputes.

I would move on with life as scheduled but at the same time find a few moments to reflect on the somberness of the occassion and honor those who lost their lives in relation to the attacks and also all soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Not that I support these wars or this administration, but remembering that these wars came about because of 9/11/01.

Also remember most of us do not reschedule our lives around the day Pearl Harbor was bombed Dec 7th, 1941 (correct me if the date is wrong) why? because it is not that significant to us except for veteran's of course.

Chances are fifty years from now most twenty, thirty, and forty year olds will not schedule their life around 9/11/01 because the date is pretty in significant to them unless you are into history like am.

Oops, I think the original post has been hijacked.  So, to back on topic, I don't feel any inclination one way or the other on going about my normal day-to-day life tomorrow.  And I know that's kind of sad.  Similarly sad, is that 11/22 doesn't hold much meaning to many people anymore. At least Pearl Harbor Day is commemorated every year so that it's now totally forgotten.  Maybe we should do the same for 9/11

Neither of us spoke about what happened that day.  But we had a wonderful date and it helped to take our minds off of the terrible things going on in the world.  

In hindsight, I think we made the right decision and my conscience doesn't bother me.  There's no right answer.  It's really up to you to decide what  is comfortable for you.

OTOH, a friend of mine was born on September 11.  She can never have a party on her birthday again.  She always schedules it at least one day off.

That was August 6, 1945.
And it was the first time use of that weapon of mass destruction - and against a civilian target at that, without prior warning.

Nevermind.  I'm not ignorant.  And I know that my previous statement is right.

Championship game...two innings to go...we were down by about three runs...I'm on deck...there was a commotion on the field, and my wife, a nurse, runs out on the field, they start doing CPR on the opposing pitcher...you guessed it, stone dead, 28 years old.  Game stopped there, we lost.

Okay, dont get mad at me but, I made an appointment that evening in 2001, I work in the protective field and that day was one of the most stressful of my career. I need someone to hold and someone to have great sex with to remember the good things. Hell I still didn't know what our course of action would be and just incase the wold was about to end I wanted to be having sexxx.
I know how selfish.

The bombing of Hiroshima is not a day I take pride in nor am I proud of the actions our government took on that day.

In a matter of seconds over 250,000 innocent lives were wiped off the face of this planet. Not to mention the endless suffering caused and the after effects which still continue to this day.

Sorry if I misphrased myself, I just did not want to confuse that date with the date the war ended which was soon after!

The cease-fire took effect ("the war ended") August 15, 1945.
August 15 is also a very ancient "religious" holiday (Obon), remembering the departed souls.

Congratulations to admitting to a perfectly human reaction, especially given the personal situation you mentioned. Military personnel often go through the very same reactions.
What you state is a lot more human than all the pseudo-heroic drivel we've been bombarded with the last few days - and today especially.
