You employed the topic of auto dealership sales as an analogy (an exotic ca, Bentley, vs a as a mass produced car, Ford) to illustrate your point of view regarding the frequency and the volume of business, as it relates to this Hobby. The basic premise presumably being that since a vehicle produced by Ford costs far less than that of Bentley's, the Ford dealership needs to sell a lot more vehicles to compete with the Bentley dealership, in so far as revenues/profits are concerned. Your analogy used to demonstrate your POV is a simple and effective one. However, if one tries to dissect that argument, there are many more variables to consider that will make that analogy redundant! Yet in the same post, your made an objectionable reference to JohnGalnh's "Wine snob" analogy when he eloquently (in my view) put across his POV regarding perception, reality and actuality. In other words, he expressed that "perception is often considered as reality, when in fact, that perceived reality is far from actuality"
The use of one popular analogy to drive your POV whilst dismissing another analogy to convey your displeasure with another posters POV is somewhat contradictory! As for me, I think that women (or humans in general) are a lot more analogous to wine than cars. With wine, if you have not tasted the product before, all that you have to go by is your visual impression of the bottle (design, labeling, etc) plus any previous reviews given to it by consumers and wine experts. On some occasions, you can go to wine tasting events and get a sample and test it against your own taste buds, but that usually applies to wines which are perhaps a bit more upmarket. As for cars, one can eradicate much of this perception/reality/actuality guesswork by doing the kind of due diligence which is readily available and accessible. Basically you can go to many different dealerships and "test drive" the car as many times as you would like (some may even allow you to take it home overnight!) before you (ever) make a commitment. Surely there is "hard sale", but a savvy consumer can overcome the hard sale techniques. In fact in my humble opinion, when it comes to choosing a potential suitor for us humans as a "mate" (whether on sub hourly, hourly or much longer term basis, aka relationships) I wish that matter were as easy as car shopping, before one makes a commitment
You see, I liked both analogies and therefore used them both to "drive" my own POV
