This is a timely subject for me, personally. I struggle with the idea of raising my rates, and have kept them pretty much on the low end of the scale for a couple of reasons. 4 is still plenty, period. I have high standards for myself, and give 110 percent each time I see someone, and truly enjoy my "job". I love the clients, the intimate connections, figuring out their needs and desires, and perform accordingly (if it's within my boundaries).
That said, I am so grateful for the patronage, and feel that it's a privelage to serve (and most of the time, get as much or more satisfaction out of the experience than my clients!). At times, I wonder if I should be the one paying them for bringing so much pleasure!
When I started out in this hobby (so many years ago) , my rates were only 100 less than they are today, because I have to keep up with the going rates without seeming cheap and not worth what the other gals are asking.
I want to be accessible to clients on a regular basis, not charge so much that they only can see me every now and again or even just one time. So many of them come once a week, twice a month or maybe they do only come once. That's ok... I still feel fortunate to have spent quality time with someone who I enjoy being with (and helping them with whatever needs they may have). That's why I do this. I'm a giver. We get more out of serving others and it all comes back tenfold in the wash, eventually.

I suspect that most independents started off working for an agency. It does little good to bellyache over market trends, but as consumers, we can influence those trends by careful shopping. Values still very much exist in transportation, and in the hobby.

I suspect I'm not the only player who will not see a provider below a certain rate. Here in the City of Angels my experience has taught me not to go below 300 for the most part and I don't see ladies who advertise half-hour rates. I'm not here to judge anyone who goes there. It's just not for me.

I've heard this from more than one provider. The women I've 'heard' this from acknowledging the general truth that the higher the rate, the fewer the 'problems'. The flip side is more money, less work. And before guys jump in and say that's not always true, of course, it's not. But the shades of grey run towards the higher the fee, the fewer problems. Older men who are ok, or unable, to have more than one pop, for example.
In the automotive business, its better to do an aftermarket supercharger or turbo install than a 100 oil changes. I just wanted a simple flooring done in my kitchen. I talked to a guy doing work on my neighbor's house. He was very polite but declined the work. He noted he just finished a $100k kitchen job in McClean, VA (Expensive neighborhood), so a simple flooring wouldn't be worth it for him.

Because I just move on. Quickly, and make a small mental note to never bother looking at that name again. When looking at profiles, I scroll down to see if they BBBJCIM, then their rate, then their stats, and any one of these could cause me to swipe back and move on depending on the answers before I even start reading reviews. I personally don’t see anyone for more than $350/hour unless they allow video. Anyone who is willing to pay more for an hour, good for them and good for the provider. With some very minor exceptions, I’m as unlikely to see a FS provider for $500/hour as I am to see one for $200/hour — both to me are probably not worth it based on my past experiences and preferences.
I frequent k-agencies where the average for looks and service is higher than the averages for non-k-girls plus they are reliable, never in my experience have excuses and flake, never cost me more than $300/hour, and I always prefer a private residence over hotels.
