Beware of Facebook.

Ok here is why. I seen a new girl. She was fun, had a great time. Just now I got a friend suggestion for this girl, not for her hobby facebook page if she even has one, but her real one with her real name. This is not information she gave me but information facebook outed. I just sent her a warning about what happened so she can take steps to stop it from happening again. I hope it doesn't freak her out as I am hoping to repeat, but she needs to know to privatize her real life facebook or delete it. I do not know why she popped up as a friend suggestion, especially since it was a dummy facebook page of mine to get online facebook coupons and stuff. I don't have a real personal facebook page as I don't want crap like this. Only a business one, and a fake name dummy one. Just a friendly heads up.

A well known provider popped up on my FB page as a friend suggestion. So, I'm sure I popped up on hers. It was also weird because I thought she was just making up a persona for her clients, but she was indeed telling me the truth about her real life.

And, yes, it's pernicious. Just one of many things to dislike about Facebook.

I just never had it happen to me to have a provider's information randomly outed to me by that site. I thought it worthwhile to warn those who are new to this and have something to loose, that Facebook is the enemy of all privacy and can out them randomly. This is especially true for the ladies using a stage name to keep their hobby and real lives separate.

I honestly don't know how Facebook linked us. Facebook is scary in the data it collects.

But, I probably wouldn't have mentioned it to her. I would have just acted as if I knew nothing of her RL.
Simply because you can never tell what degree of skittish a provider will have....as you have already thought of in wondering if this will kill repeats with her.
Ive never happened upon a providers info in this manner...just had a few give me their RL info at their own behest.
Im as friendly as can be, but im not trying to nose up in any girls business. I go with what they feel comfortable with...

Maybe I should copyright the phrase "Avoid Social Media Like the Plague That It Is" but TER already owns the rights to the stuff we post here.

I think it was correct to warn her about her unintentional "outing." I have been thanked by others for alerting them to personal info breaches. Some could freak out and blame you or refuse to see you again but, assuming you are a nice guy non-stalker non-doxxer, you may have saved her from such things happening by others.

"No good deed goes unpunished."   For me, the benefits of bringing this to her attention do not outweigh the potential blowback.  I would have let somebody else play the white knight and simply made myself available to console her after some other asshole gives her the bad news.  Sometimes its better to duck when the shit hits the fan.

The lady in question used one phone for everything: personal life and business.  Therefore, when I put her number in my phone, it cross referenced with my Facebook and she popped up in my friend suggestions under her real name. So basically, if a lady's info shows up on your social media, it's her own fault for not having a separate phone and email for business.

There's many reasons. The most common is when the other person searches Facebook for you, and views your page/profile. Providers should be careful and use dummy social media accounts to search for clients' information.
Also, if you did a Google search on her phone number, email, name, etc, Facebook can see what you are searching for. If it's linked to a Facebook profile, you'll get a friend suggestion. Which means you probably want to review the privacy settings on your account. Best thing to do is spend fun-filled afternoon getting cozy with Facebook's, Settings and Privacy tab.

Yup. Last year, I was searching for escorts and I found one. Googled the email she was using on her ad and found a data aggregator site with her real name, phone number, current residence, previous residence and the names of family.

I ended up not seeing her, but I created a new address and emailed her to warn her about it just so any potential blowback could not be linked back to me.

She ended up thanking me. Hopefully she is using a new email address now.

that if she used her FB to check this guy out, it could & would pop up as suggesting friends.  He did say it was a dummy account.  So that baffles me a little how she found his dummy page???  I agree with what some others have said, that social media tracks us and our devices are too smart.
