I've got the wine, water and cola, but I wanted to add beer to my collection for gentlemen when visiting me. However, I never drink beer and have no idea what to get. I know some everyday domestic will receive a upturned nose from a beer lover...so any suggestions?
I dig Canadian and German beers. Mexican doesn't do much for me, but Negro Modelo and Dos Equis are good. Grolsch is good. Heineken. Sapporo and Tsing Tao.
I mostly drink Coors Light cuz I have to watch my figure, you know.
I'm a newbie to the hobby, but beer and I are old friends. You're looking for a beer for your clients to have when they visit not all of which may be beers snobs, so I don't think you'd want to get a beer thats to niche that a guy who just wants a beer will have never heard of it. Two standards I would suggest are heineken or molson they may not be everybody's favorite but everybody knows what they are, and that they are not cheap beer. If you have a regular who you know works out alot and tries to keep in shape then you might want to have a light beer, miller lite or amstel light would be good choices. My favortie beers are the munich lowenbrau ( I agree with not getting the under license stuff from canada its never as good as the original ) or san miguel from the philippines also any of the great lakes brewery beers, but would never expect someone to have them.

I have to get in on this one. A couple of nice lager almost pilsner types that are great in hot weather are Peroni and Morretti, both Italian beers. Whenever in NYC I always go to Cafe Dante' on McDougal in the Village and get some of their incredible tiramisu with a Peroni - sounds weird I know but you'll never know till you try it. A great pilsner is Pilsner Urquell from the Czech Republic. Be sure to have pilsner glasses and lemon. Slice a wedge of lemon and drop it in the glass (don't squeeze it) before you pour the beer. That's the way it's done in Germany. If you want a darker beer get New Belgium's "1554". Their big seller is Fat Tire but I don't care for its aftertaste. I'd stay away from high alcohol beer - might make some clients sloppy. Have thick pint glasses and pilsner glasses and that's all you need. Good luck and bottoms up! Wow, I'm into that statement for more reasons than beer. Shucks, enjoy. gf60
I can't help it - this beer dialogue intrigues me. I'm not fond of IPAs (India Pale Ales) since they are so "hoppy". About the only IPA I'll drink is Dogfish which is pricey but is damn good. I'd be careful about serving this type of beer to a client based on the fauna alignment in the intestinal tract. And depending upon the length of the engagement there could be some unpleasant odors arising. gf60
