It is so senseless.
That's why I avoid the malls during peak periods.

You can call it "Brown Friday"! ![]()

and this is driven by the changing values of people. As a semi-old guy, who was raised by the Greatest Generation, I look at America today, and I do not recognize it. There has been a lot of *good* change, especially in civil rights, but the consumption oriented culture is driving this country into economic oblivion, and a lot of lives are being ruined by this mindset. A tragedy like this puts paints an all too absurd picture of what our culture is becoming.
produced by others in other countries.
when my travels took me to central America, I saw field after field after field of vegetables destined for export to the US. Meanwhile, produce sold to the local people cost more than what we pay here. And they were earning 200-400 a month! The same is true of many commodities and in many places. Americans are basically decent people, but they do not travel the world very much compared to folks from other developed countries, and they do not generally realize how our consumption patterns create hardship for so many......
Maybe this will make people stop and think.
I hope stores do a better job at crowd control after this.
I agree it is sad.
No, people are not going to stop and think. This happens every year.
However, stores are selling merchandise and should not have to do riot control.
Indeed, sad.
I don't believe race was a factor of this tragedy. its the class of the people not the color of their skin that determined this. I also hold the local authorities as well as walmart accountable for not stopping this riot before it got this far. I am a person of color and when things like this happen it truly saddens me and makes me say I am truly glad I am out the hood now, but yes its parts of my job I don't like but overall I deal with it to have a better life.
How can you blame the store?
I don't know of a single shopping store that is equipped for riot control. Please show me a department store, just one, that has 30 armed guards to control a riot.
Let me tell you something about the people. They were not poor starving souls looking for a meal. They were shoppers.
I get tired of people always pointing the finger at someone or something else.
Put the blame where it belongs! Blame the animals who incited then started a riot.
I agree you cant blame the store. The blame is entirely on the people who stampeded the store. Another thing that bothers me is the idiot pregnant woman that was injured in the riot. What the hell is a 8 months pregnant woman doing at a black Friday sale. She should be arrested for putting her baby's life in danger, dumb bitch!
Although I love shopping and enjoy people watching, instead of hitting the mall like the masses, I stayed in and have been catching up on work at home. My idea of enjoying shopping does not involve having to navigate my way through the huge crowds, so I think I will just wait to get my holiday shopping done one of the weekdays when there is more time and less madness at the mall!

...but it does not surprise me at all that this happened. ![]()
This is sad beyond words. It is frightening to me that the holidays can make people this rabid & mindless. :/
It is so senseless.
That's why I avoid the malls during peak periods.
how do riots occur? uh duh because of the amount of large crowds with lots of stamina and tension built up. I am saying that the store had to see this coming and should have called off the sale or had some backup solution.
When I heard the news about that poor Wal-mart employee, I was shocked and saddened. I'm not shocked that others don't show any concern for another person's safety or welfare. Mob( mob of people, not the mom ^_^) mentality isn't new. People in large groups in those situations, for example can turn into an ugly scene.
It just goes to further show you that some humans can be brutish and uncivilized.
Just awful.
