I am finally going to try to satisfy my curiosity with the whole sugar baby thing. It's been on my mind for a while. My area has few escorts, but with there being a couple of regional colleges, there seems to be a plethora of girls doing the SB thing.

In all seriousness, I've had a few of these SD/SB things and some worked out fairly well and some didn't.  The basic how-to and relational concepts I learned have very little to do with the amount of money at stake, though, so in that regard no, champagne and beer don't enter into it.  

Just like in this playground (or kitty litter box, as it sometimes becomes), each girl sets her own rate and decides what she will and won't put up with.  That number can be anything under the sun, but the basics of human decency and being able to make it through a dinner without earning a butter knife to the thigh tend to be fairly universal.

If you are deluded into thinking that every hooker on this board caters to the same kind of men, and the same market, think again. I would never offer GFE for less than what I do now, and for good reason...it's not worth the rate for the shit you have to put up with. You have proven you are more than respectful of women, their rates, and their boundaries, so sugar land will encompass all of that, but much more. Be prepared to have a lot of time wasted cruising for real ads, and that she is the girl in the photos. There are no rules in sugar land like there are here. Choose carefully and you can have a lot of fun without breaking the bank.   I've met several women thru SD/SB websites and out in public, typically 20 years or more younger than me.  Overnights typically cost me less than the price of two hours with a provider.

But, the escorts are more upfront.  With an escort, it will cost XYZ and that's it.  With a sugar baby, be prepared for the cons, the sob stories, the I need xtra money for ABC.

If you do the SB route, my advice would be to have clear financial boundaries.  Otherwise, she will milk you for more and the drama will increase.
