Lately I have noticed many posts regarding health issues on this board. Assuming that we are all hobbyists and providers that post on this board, we are all at risk for a number of diseases. Examples:
Kissing- gonorrhea, herpes, Hepatitis B and C, HIV from bleeding gums
Oral on a woman - herpes, gonorrhea, thrush (mouth yeast infection), HIV and Hepatitis C.Oh and did you know there is also Hepatitis D,E,F, and G!
Also, did you know that smoking 1 cigarette could cause lung cancer. All it takes is one little mutated cell. Just breathing secondhand smoke could have caused lung cancer. Think of all the secondhand smoke you have breathed in throughout your life! Also, you could have a sudden brain anuerysm as you are walking down the street.
Also, the next time you go to your favorite incall or massage parlor. Think about all of the potentially harmful living organisms that may be on the bed, table, dresser, or faucet handle. Pubic lice love the warmth of a warm, cozy bed.
Now if you make it through all of that, you most probably will die of CAD, or maybe get Alzheimers or Parkinsons disease.I am not posting this to make light of any of the health information or questions that have been posted, but the bottom line is that very few people live risk-free lifestyles, and we all need to be careful all of the time.
In addition, there are so many factors that contribute to actually developing an illness. These include length of exposusre, amount of the offending antigen, also the virulence of the virus, and the immunity of the potential host. I am not saying throw caution out the window because we are all going to die. What I am saying is don't freak out over every little medical fact that you hear! The medical community and the media love to hype things up. Get your legitimate facts first, then make your decision about your personal lifestyle choices. We all take risks everyday just by living our lives.

You're either in the game or on the sidelines. Doing stuff is way more fun than watching.

Having had a hair-raising experience with a goddam semi cutting me off on a suburban city street within a couple hundred yards of his right turn (what a cowboy !!), I thought 'I would not have even gotten a kiss' before his rig 'punched my ticket'.

And then there professions, like firemen and women, law enforcement and EMTs who might take a huge risk any time, any place in the line of duty.

Strange thing is, I have never read a post here from any hobbyist who actually got an STD from a provider. Anyone care to share such experiences?

EXCELLENT discussion!

I just started a new thread on the Atlanta BigDoggie board re. the risk of getting HIV from bbbj(tc) (which I offer). Got lots of responses, some including hobbyists who say they would never see a provider who offered bbbj and that they always wear *two* condoms, plus use foam. Geez!! If they're THAT paranoid, they should just stay home and watch the Playboy channel.

I am just as "scared" of AIDS as anyone else, but seriously ... I have heard of NO escorts getting AIDS (or anything else) from a client, or vice-versa. Has anyone else??? I think providers have a better chance of dying ON THE WAY to an outcall than from giving a bbbj once they get there.

I just saw my physician and we talked about STDs and bbbjs.
He mentioned the possibility of ghonnorea and chlamyida
from bbbjs but minimal risk of HIV from bbbj...that risk
occurs primarily with FS.  I know several providers who
offer bbbjs and none of them has ever mentioned having
acquired an STD--and they're quite candid with me as well
as too smart to engage in risky behaviour if they had an
STD.

As a heterosexual male, am not the least bit scared of getting AIDS from a woman provider. Other things yes, but not AIDS. I reached this conclusion from the facts I have read, and not just out of denial.

On the issue of wearing two condoms. Condoms were not designed to be doubled-up in this way. My understanding is that the friction of latex-on-latex can break down the barrier protection that condoms afford.

If believe every media and medical hype - if any group should be at high risk of STD, it should be the provider/hobbyist group for sheer volume of sexual conatcts - and yet, I have, so far, not met any hobbyist or provider who has developed STD - nothing serious that can not be managed by common antibiotics. I have personnally had encounters with over hundred diffrent providers who in turn might have seen hundreds of other clients before I saw them - and so far I have not cought even a comman cold from any of them. Am I just lucky? I guess. Is it reckless? I guess it depends on paranoia level - yours not mine. I just laugh when people get paranoid about itsy bity things - if they are that paranoid, they should not do it at all. We all have to take risks in life and level of risk one should take is that which a person is comfortable with and willing to live with. Now if I see strong evidence of widespead std among provider and hobbyist community, sure i will reassess my risks and modify my encounters accordingly. But I don't give in to paranoia.

There have been more than a few people here who have reported catching a STD from a provider.  I know I have commented on it over and over again, to the point of some people here being quite sick of me.

I have contracted two STDs from providers.  Most recently, it was after receiving a BBBJ.  I had intercourse with the gal as well and I *suppose* the condom could have failed, but I sure didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.  The STD ended up being the usual "non-specific UTI", but the nurse at the clinic suspected it was Gonorrhea that didn't test positive because I had already gone through standard chlamydia treatment (which of course didn't work entirely).

A few years prior to that, I had contracted a non-specific UTI from a provider.  There was no specific unsafe act to speak of (she didn't do BBBJs), but she did go from playing with herself to giving me a pretty rough HJ.  Could have been a condom failure as well.

I have herpes II (which hasn't reared its ugly head in over a year and a half, thanks to daily acyclovir), but caught that from a "non-provider", after one act of bareback intercourse.

...they made us watch in the service.  I was in the army and warned to stay away from Vietnamese women who were being "infected" by the VC with VDs that were not treatable by our antibiotics.  I never touched a Vietnamese woman, but got a dose of the clap from an American nurse at Cam Ranh Bay!  Go figure.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all!

"and yet, I have, so far, not met any hobbyist or provider who has developed STD - nothing serious that can not be managed by common antibiotics."

And exactly why do you think people would be truthful with you if they *had* developed a STD, serious or not?  Don't be naive -- people lie.

Otherwise, I pretty much agree with what you said.

When was your last blood test?

Some diseases have very little or no side effects.

My most recent test was 2 weeks ago when I had a doctor friend of mine do full body scan on me along with blood tests. I have had health issues relating to thyroid, sleep apneia, ucler, acid reflux and sinatysis in recent years and had to go thru frequent medical checkups and I have made it a practice to throw in STD tests whenever I have any blood tests. I have been practicing this hobby for last 9 years - pretty long time for something, if it is there, to surface by now.

How long did it take for symptoms to show. What were the symptoms. If we hobbyists are going to engage in BBBJ's or Daty is there any signs we can look for to lessen the risk besides dental dams or condoms...

Kristi,
I spoke to a health clinic and they told me that the risk of getting HIV from oral sex both sides is nil.. In fact he had never seen it.. As far as other STD's risk is higher but use of common sense can lessen that risk.. Open sores avoid the activity. Any strange oders, avoid the activity. Not that this completely eliminates the risk but it does minimize it.. So I am told...

Bullshit, it is denial. HIV is transmitted through blood transfer. If you are not careful, you are dead. Simple precautions can save lives. Denial is fatal.
