"With the law likely not on his side even if Craigslist isn't following through, Blumenthal's most potent weapon is public shame. And if the subpoenaed records show that despite its promises, Craigslist is doing nothing to stop the sex industry's use of the web site, shame is well deserved. Nonetheless as a private company it's not clear that public shame is all that powerful of a weapon."

The millions of revenue from persons in the, let's call if Hobby for lack of legal term, trumps "shame" in this instance. Beyond shame, the AG has truly no case at all. Shame who? For how long? The persons again, who use CL (both hobbyists and advertisers) are certainly not interested in shame. Others are not viewing those pages anyways for the most part.

is if  was arrested for fucking a "fuglie" and had my picture posted next to a "two bagger" lol

Aside from that, I am not the least bit ashamed of my hobbying proclivities, and having my picture plastered in the papers wouldn't bother me in the least, as long as she was a hottie. rofl

They fight battles for making a name for themselves and move on to the next political position like governor, congressman or senator.

If they really want to fight crime, there is plenty of crime they can fight.

Why do they always single out CL and never mention BP?

"It's difficult to determine how much money Craigslist started pocketing from this change, but it's safe to say it was substantial. It's estimated that the adult services ads brought in some $36 million in revenue last year -- about one-third of Craigslist's total revenue for the year."

Because CL has waay more name recognition amongst the general population. I had used CL countless times (to find apartments, to sell things etc.) before I ever came to TER. I didn't even discover BP until after I started hobbying.

Good question! I think it really had to do with the negative attention CL got. BP has yet to (and I hope they don't) gain negative attention. (ie, murders, rapings, etc)

Not to say it hasn't happening with BP, as I don't want to find out; but negative media attention can destroy you.

The article isn't so great, but check out the comments readers have left on it. Out of the 100+ comments there are only about 3 or 4 people who support the AGs and condemn prostitution. Pretty much everyone else is overwhelmingly on our side. Too bad no politician would ever risk his career by supporting decriminalization of prostitution.
