With the war in privacy these days why are so many people still using emails that are not encrypted. Why doesn't everyone move to something like ProtonMail or Tutanota? And text using WhatsApp or Signal? Seems like these would be safer practices than everyone using gmail.
I have been in the hobby for a while (not forever, but a few years). I have a solid number of "oks" and some whitelist referrals. Screening is not an issue for me. And thus my question.
I have everything set up under my existing email (obviously) and all of the ladies I've met know me by this email address. So what happens if I switch to proton which I have been thinking about.
1. Can I just change e-addresses here and elsewhere - and it is seamless? 2. And then I just mention to my lady friends my new email address? Or does this become an issue? Input from the ladies here is much appreciated.
...know me from. I tell them my new e-mail address and let them know I will be using it from now on. I also send a PM on TER, tell them about the change, and tell them I just sent an e-mail about it. I want them to know it's legit and not just some person claiming to be xyz23.
I stopped using gmail and hotmail years ago. Google gathers far too much info and hotmail was getting just as bad.
This would seem to be the best practice. But the only problem is both parties need to be with same encrypted email for it to be truly secure. You can send secure email to a gmail address but the person will need to know the key to open it. So you would have to text the key or send some other way. If both parties use say ProtonMail the message is automatically secure without the need of a key to open it. Everyone needs to swap to a secure email strictly just for privacy rights.
That's not how encryption works. Wouldn't matter if it was turned over or hacked. It would still be encrypted. Only hack that would make your contents vulnerable is your password.
Wrong, Proton email is outside of the US located in Swiss, also if you read how ProtonMail works, here is a snipit from there website. Everyone should stay away from yahoo or gmail for this hobby, they are way too intrusive and have to abide by US laws.
ProtonMail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that we do not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages, and as a result, we are unable to hand your data over to third parties. With ProtonMail, privacy isn't just a promise, it is mathematically ensured. For this reason, we are also unable to do data recovery. If you forget your password, we cannot recover your data.
