The first lady I was ever with charged $90/hour. That was back in 1992 AND she worked for an agency. I still remember the lovely brownstone building it was in.
Those were the pre-Internet days and my friend and I spent a great deal of time perusing Screw and New Yorker magazines.
The rates then began to inch upwards a bit to $100...$120...$150...$170/$180 and so forth.
These were all NYC rates.
This is interesting how times have changed.
Ok, Ok........
I was reading the post regarding "viewers" and noticed Akitanuki mentioned that when he began participating in the hobby, the going rate was $100.00.
I have worked as an escort three times in my life. I worked for an agency in another state in 1984 for about 10 months. The rate at that time was $100.00 "for one hour". Beepers had just come in to play. We would get a beep from our agency (because someone requested my type), call them back, they would give us the gents # and name. I would describe myself and he would then say to come over. The agency at that time was the best in the city I was in and had about 30 girls working. They would only send us if the guy provided a current valid credit card number that they had the ability to check to see if it was current and valid. They then would do a Cole's Criss Cross reference to match the address with the Credit Card. Then when we arrived, we would look at his credit card, and match the name with his Driver's License.
There was upselling for kissing $25.00 and $50.00 for golden shower. I didn't offer back door so don't even know what the upsell was for that. "Around the World" was the term used to describe BBBJ just long enough to get an erection, then you would jump on and get him off as fast as you could. Pop happened and you were gone so you could do more calls. Average work night was 3 to 5 guys a night. The agency kept $30.00, you kept $70.00. If you liked a local guy, you would then give him your pager number and see him for $70.00 for basic Around the World. That was how you built your own client base. Rarely did anyone give you a tip just to be generous.
I worked again in 1997 for about 3 months for an agencey. The agency would quote $150.00 to the customer. Send us directly, they were NOT doing the good screening that was done by previous agency. You had to pay the agency $100.00 so you were now forced to upsell. The going thing then was to ask for very firmly for a $100.00 tip before moving forward. And try to do this without saying anything wrong. Had a VERY close call with LE on this one and quite the biz at that time.
Now here we are in San Diego. I came out as an Independant in July of 2002. Happened to meet a girl here who showed me the ropes to be an independant. Since nearly 20 years had passed I felt I couldn't charge as much as the younger more beautiful women.....so I began advertising at $200.00 feeling that was all I could get. I didn't know I was going to get such a great response for being mature. I didn't know at first about TER, and was paying $100.00 for advertising at SDExotics. Within about a week and a half I got a review and my phone went OFF the hook! What a great place this is. I raised my rate to $250.00 after about 6 months just to slow down the phone and e-mails. I have considered raising to $300.00 but decided to stay where I am because I get more multi-hour appointments and still alot of approach which allows me to choose from the best guys.
For me, being Independant, having absolute choice in who I am going to meet vs. being sent by an agency never knowing what you are walking into is two different worlds. There were so many times, the agency would send me because the Big Beautiful Blond was already on a call, so you drive, and find a place and they don't open the door because they see a petite brunette. This NEVER happens to me now. I no longer pay for any advertising, so my only expense is my phone a little gasoline and clothes, stockings etc, most of which I would be buying anyway. I also have a nice place for my regulars that I pay a bit more from than I would if I wasn't "working". But hey, still getting my goals reached and living like a decent human being.
As for my experiences I really do get to give the time agreed on and more if I can or want to which provides for nicer encounters with people who appreciate it. I also get to recieve feedback on how I am doing. My first few reviews showed me what I needed to improve on as well as what to keep doing..........
Certainly I chose to re-enter the business because of financial challenges, but my only regret is that I didn't do that along time ago because I really am having a great dating experience. Much better than Yahoo personals, LOL.
Any feedback on the "History" from Ladies? Of course I would love to hear from the guys too.
No way would I turn you away if you knocked on my door.
{grin}
I sure wish you would visit Seattle. But then again, I may have to take a road trip!
I started as a hobbyist in 1984 in Las Vegas. Strip hotel call girls were 250.00 for FS.

Awesome info Turk! It really is interesting to hear the details of the evolution. I would like to thank everyone here for contributing as well. Particularly Rabbit, Turkana, Kelly, Hailey (WOW, great writing girl!), Woody, Heather, Deanna, Joc13 & E-Ticket.
Keep it coming!

I am sure that there are very few ladies that have a 20 year perspective. Although added up I have worked about 21/2 years altogether.....I still do have that window of seeing how drastically things have changed. I'm sure there is potential for more feedback from the guys then there are the ladies.
I've only been in the business a couple of years. How could I possibly make the same sort of comparisons other women have?
among other areas
Jenni,
What a beautiful post! Was that written 100% by you or a 'ghost writer' from Doubleday? If it's your writing, then you really are every bit as delightful, charming and intelligent as you seemed the very first time we spoke. Mmmmm...
A courageous post too as it took plenty of guts to admit that $$ was all you felt you could get at first. Right! Per minute maybe... Did you really buy into that Madison Ave. bull about "younger is better"? Or are you teasing us, knowing full well that experience is EVERYTHING?
Interesting granularity regarding upselling. Can I beg a little more specific description? Please paint us a picutre of the $25.00 kiss. Titillating juicy details please, yes?
Jenni,
I have worked on and off since 1984, like yourself.
I started out working as an independent in a well Known Hooker Bar, in the French Quarter (Bourbon St.) New Orleans, La.
We were considered High Class Working Girls and we made $100 an hour. $100 sure went Alot farther in those days! The Oil was booming in Texas and the money was flowing like crazy!
We flew in private jets with clients and drank the best champagne. We also, didn't have to worry about LE as we knew all
the big players.
If I would have continued to stay in the business then, I would have been retired very nicely now! I guess that it just was not in my cards. But, I still love what I am doing now and wouldn't change a thing!

Yes, actually $100.00 was awesome at that time. The origional agency I worked for also sent us to alot of great places. I didn't get to fly in Jets, but did go to the best resorts most of the time, even if it was only for 1 hour calls. But on a day to day basis there was alot of monotany in going from one call to another all night. Also, you could if you were good manage to stay all night (which was $600.00) then. But otherwise, you had to call in when you arrived, and call out exactly on hour later, to go to the next.
The agency I worked for then screened so well, we didn't worry about LE, but later in 97, when they wanted to keep 100 of the 150 quoted, left us in a bad position. Why would anyone walk away with only $50.00 and give them $100.00. So upselling was absolutely necessary 13 yrs later.
I am not sure what the cut is now for an agency girl. Anyone answer this one for me?
And yes, I wish I had stayed in the biz now too! I would have sooooooo many more boyfriends now, LOL.
Thanks sooo much for your reply.
Also, thanks for the Kudo's E-Ticket!
Hugzzz,
Jenni
I definitely understand where you are both coming from. I myself have worked for 3 years now and have seen some drastic changes in the conditions....For one, things were not nearly as tough with LE 3 years ago here in Phx...but then again, there were not as many low life agencies around trying to rip these gentleman off for a quick buck...and using the girls to do that for them....
As for myself...I started with an agency...they would make us sit in a room all night with nothing but a few couches and a tv that was from the 70s and you could barely get any reception....if you wanted food or something to drink or eat..you would have to ask your driver to go for you...god forbid you left for a breath of fresh air....Working 7pm-10am...4 nights a week...very draining....Did not screen very well and half the time, whether you had a request or not...they would send you out as the girl the guy requested over the phone..even if that meant you were supposed to be an asian girl or a dominatrix or a BBW....whatever the guy asked for...you were that...many upset clients...!!!
As for the fees.....150 was the agency fee...no ifs ands or butts...if you did not feel safe and wanted to leave after arriving...you still owed them 150$ or you were fired....
From there...you would have to make your own tips....say the guy only had 300 to expend....well, 150 went to the agency...20% of the leftover went to driver...(60$) and another 15% went to the phone op...((45$) So, after all is said and done..you are lucky to walk with 45$ for a very non-secure all night feeling like you were being used...which was exactly what they are doing now....
The agencies now are the main reason LE is having so many problems....you call an ad..get a lady over and think you are only spending 150...then she tells you she needs to make money on top of that...then if you tell her no thank you then, then they call the driver and the guy gets beat to a pulp or pays up...then the angry client calls the cops and complains...
Ladies we all have the ruthless agencies to thank for this one!!!
I will never, ever put a guy in a bad posiition and will never ever work for another agency again in my life!!!
Okay , this is from an older hobbiest point of view. In the mid 70's in Miami I met my first working girl friend. We hung out with a group of regular mid 20 something people who could really party hardy. There was a girl named Gloria, very pretty, loved sex so she decided to try getting paid. Her current boyfriend was a friend of mine. The angencies then really discouraged independents.First they set her up with Le and got her busted. This was when I found out about her working. She needed bail and her boyfriend wasnt worth a damn with money and allways had it spent.I gave her the bail which she made a point ot thanking me personally for even after paying it back. She was a girl with scruples. Next time the agency called her to a motel where two goons beat her up pretty bad.Her boyfriend and I went to the hospital and picked her up and they decided to leave town for health reasons.Never saw them again.Oh and the price in Miami back then was $100.I'm glad to see that some of the agencies are run by women who started out as providers.I belive they are a little less ruthless.
Hi Hailey,
Thanks for your input, when I went to an agency the second time in 1997, I was given a "tour" by this "pimp" who had a couple of girls working. He drove a Blue Corvett with a big fuzzy heart on the hood. He was an idiot. He had the same set up. A horrible cheezy little dump for the girls to sit around in. AND you had to do an "Audition" for him to get in. AND pay him a $300.00 deposit! I declined and worked for a girl who was a little bit better but not much considering the messed up places she would send you. The agency in 1984 was run by two women and they were probably the best scenario any girl could want at that time. They were really very cool and worked very hard to send us to the best they could.
When I first came to Vegas,I did not have the internet or a computer for that matter, so I also went to an agency with hopes that they would treat me right and my god, they did not know how to market me hehe!!They sent me out on Blonde Busty Calls and like I scared a few of those guys to death, hehe!! Busty is one thing but to a man that knows nothing about HUGE BREASTS BEYOND BUSTY,LIKE MYSELF and wants a D cup or normal Busty Gal don't send me out hoping that I can work it,let's get it straight D cups are not the same as HHH Cups, well let's just say it made life difficult. They sent me out on crap calls, ones that they told me,oh yeah he wants someone like me and yes some did but not as many as It should have been and in the last case when I showed up,and he said you are a bit much, well like I was wanting to be with him anyway he looked like a puke, hehe!! I went back to the agency office after I had this happen to me for the last time.I told them they were maggots and that all they were imterested in was the money and they said, hehe!! Do you have the drop?hell I did not even get thru the door in this case,so they made it seem like I stole the call, asked for the drop again and I bluntly told them to go F themselves.I would never ever work for an agency again ,they are all for themselves, they could care less if a girl is set up or hurt, they want that drop.I hope they all burn to the ground. If an agency new how to market me the right way and showed some F ng appreciation and did not treat me like some street walker(SOME OF THOSE GALS WERE SCARY)hehe!! they could have made a fortune on me,oh well you live and you learn.

The only thing I have noticed is when I take those multi-hour appointments for late night dinner dates and overnights, they are asking if they can take my doggy bag from dinner leftovers back to their hotel suite for a late night snack.
They hand me 3 grand for the wonderful evening. I hand them the bag of leftovers.
Behind every successful man, stands the fear of calling for room service. Take my food, please. Just allow me to leave gently into the night with my G string, my envelope, and my 5 gallon tank of baby oil.
People still have money to spend but they want your dinner so before my dinner appointments, I must prep by eating dinner. Now I have learned to take all food into my mouth, salivate on it and spit it back onto my plate so I can claim it for the length of the evening. A five star elite companion can do all this while conversing about Josh Groban, Tom Clancy and the pitfalls of investing in pharmaceudical companies without you ever suspecting there was a food war underway.
-- Modified on 2/25/2004 12:23:36 AM
How sad is that? I've never even _considered_ asking for the doggy bag. AFAIC, it's _your_ food, you take it if you so desire. (How about you leave the G-string instead. B^D ) If I took _anyone_ to dinner it would never occur to me to ask this. Why would a "compensated date" be any different?
Seriously, is this prevalent?

Jenni,
I don't think I've ever heard anyone speak so frankly about what it's like to work for an agency and what it was like pre-internet. Thank you so much, I enjoyed that perspective and it made me feel especially grateful to TER and other boards like it. I entered this business (in a serious way) through the internet though I had had previous experience occasionally working a hotel bar or working out some kind of deal with good customers at the strip club where I worked. The few times I worked a hotel bar were excruciatingly nerve racking. I simply wouldn't have made it without the internet. Thanks for your candor.
LJ
From the hobbyist side, my history goes back almost as far as yours - around 1989. I had moved back to NYC. In those pre-internet days, the way most of us found out about the hobby was by print ads appearing in either NY Magazine and the Village Voice. Al Goldstein's Screw Magazine also had provider ads and even some capsule reviews of some incall establishments.
Without the benefit of a service like TER, it took some doing to try to weed out the rip-offs. One tactic often used by agencies was to place ads that made it appear as if the ad was by a single independent provider. Believe it or not, among other things, I actually made lists of telephone numbers appearing in ads(including numbers that were in numerical sequence) to weed out agencies that seemed to be less than straight. As I was only interested in incall, I did not have any dealings with outcall agencies, which were far more common than incall agencies at the time.
The first provider I saw, was an independent named "Rusty" who I saw in her apartment on the East Side of Manhattan. I still remember her fondly for her personality and skills. She was a mature provider; she could have even been older than I was at the time. I did not have enough information about the going rates for incall in NYC and so my payments of $300/hour were certainly significantly above the norm. But it is a free market and I don't begrudge Rusty a dime of the money I paid her. Before there was a GFE acronym being bandied about, she was that for me.
However, as I became more knowledgeable, I discovered Tiffany's incall. Tiffany had an apartment brothel in a doorman building in the West 50's near Broadway. Prices were about $120 for the hour if I remember correctly. Standard practice at Tiffany's was that every appointment began with a shower WITH THE PROVIDER YOU WERE SEEING. However, the time for the session did not begin until AFTER the shower was over. Brilliant! Everyone was squeaky clean, the hobbyists felt they were getting something extra -- beyond their allotted time, and it was a great way to break the ice with a new provider. Needless to say, I became a regular. I have many fond memories of Tiffany's, including the night that Tiffany, some of the women working the late shift, and I all went out for a late, late night dinner at the 24-hour Brasserie that was off Park Avenue in Manhattan. Tiffany paid for us all!! I had a number of other memorable experiences there, but those will have to await my anonymous autobiography.
The internet and sites like TER are incredible for the hobby. That there are opportunities for women to take control of their lives, their businesses, and not be subjugated by ruthless or lying agencies is wonderful. The reviews -- when written honestly by hobbyists and not embellished to make each session seem like the second (or third or fourth) "cumming" of the world's sexual savior -- really do provide valuable input to providers and information to hobbyists.
In all, I have a tremendous amount of respect for providers, as a whole. I have been ripped off only a few times and have not let it sour me on the profession. I am simply older and wiser. I have had wonderful times with many women. I have learned a lot about sexual technique and have had the freedom to explore what I like and how I like it with the providers I have seen. Although some providers are more honest than others about what actually does feel good to them, I have also learned a lot about what women enjoy sexually.
So, thank you to those providers who enjoy what they do, genuinely desire to please the men they see, and who I have seen or have yet to see!!
The one thing I miss most about my old favorite place in Atlanta - the Perimeter Spa - is the table showers they used to do. Same idea like Tiffany's - get clean first.
I hear ladies complain all the time about guys not being clean enough when they show up for an appointment. Making a pre-session shower interesting - by being in the shower, too - would probably encourage more guys to take a shower at the beginning. If you make a guy shower alone, then at least don't include the shower time in the paid for time. And saying "take a shower before you come" doesn't cut it. How many guys are going to be able to come from the office and have a place to be able to take a shower? Heck, since I'm on the outskirts of Atlanta, I can take a shower, drive the 30-45 minutes to get to anyone's location, and I'm not exactly fresh and clean anymore.
jenni.......i was a once a week guy for years in connecticut.dealing with crappy agencys...pagers{argh!}....and unreturned voice mails{we still deal with that!}lol...how about "get the room and call us back". only to have no one available...nice huh...i used to call it "room f%(*^ed"...well anyway le in this state is very active.alot of agencys getting busted and making front page news..we have the biggest casino in the world {foxwoods} and another close by called mohegan sun and very little provider activity....whats that tell you...i know alot of providers come from new york, providence and boston but they don't push it..the biggest change i've seen is the internet and e-mail contact...this is awesome....e-mail contact can and does for the most part take away alot of those "first time " jitters that are shared on BOTH sides. as far as your maturity... thank god. i would much rather spend time with a mature lady with a couple of strech marks{ like who cares} than a 18 year old bubble head any day...best of luck jenni and if your ever in conn...........
What a FANTASTIC responce! The perspectives of the girls AND the guys are GREAT! It does reinforce the fact that being Independant is best, and I am not knocking some of the best agencies and there are a few for those who want to go that route, again I say in 1984 the agency I worked for did thier very best to send us to good calls, but 13 yrs later it was a nightmare for the ones that were available to me and I was such of a novice at the net, it never occurred to me to even try to figure that out........like I said, I didn't last long on the second round. But this, this is fantastic. I love you all!
Jenni
I had my introduction to the hobby when my cousins took me to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico and I got a BJ for $2 in "boys town" in 1965.
In 1969, while in NYC for college, I saw SWs in Times Square late at night and was fascinated. They'd strut around in mini-skirts and tight tops on 49th Street between Bway and 8th, or on the short strip of 50th between Bway and 7th, saying "Wanna go out" or "10 for me and 10 for the room." I remember Yvonne...tall, skinny, model looks...I saw her four times.
By the mid-70s, Screw magazine was running "classified" ads in the back that were thinly veiled ads for brothels. With great trepidation, I made an appointment for one; it was on 26th Street between Lex and Park. The rate was $40 for 40 minutes. There was a redhead I saw three times, who wanted to go into nursing; I wish I could remember her name and I wonder what happened to her. There was the brunette who showed me her vacation pictures of Puerto Rico. Sometime in that experience, the scintilla of a thought crossed the mind of my mid-twenties self that "providers" could "provide" something more than simply getting ones rocks off, but I wasn't ready for that yet.
At the same time -- the mid-70s -- Abe Beame was mayor of New York, the City was going bankrupt, and corruption reigned. There were "massage parlors" up and down 8th Avenue and one could "pop in" and get a hj for $10, a cbj for $20 or full service for $30, usually on a narrow cot in a tiny cubicle. A lot of the excitement was in just how awfully sleazy and dangerous it was.
In the early 80s, as the stock market took off, brothels began to flourish around the City. While Screw continued to run ads, a new paper, Action, appeared. It was the print precursor to TER: there was a guide to the brothel that gave basic information -- location, phone, rates, number of girls and perhaps a bit of basic information; plus stories about individual encounters. Rates were between 100 to 150 an hour. The providers in these places tended to be young, intelligent, pretty, cultured, and fun. In 1987 I met Patty at one of these places and we immediately hit it off; she was more fun than any woman I'd known -- in civilian life or otherwise -- and I became a regular for about 8 months; we'd spend two hour sessions together at least once a week. She was a "brat" -- irreverant, outspoken, outrageous -- but a lovable brat. Most of the time we talked and laughed. Then she suddenly took off to England, and my heart was almost broken.
I drowned my sorrows by going to another "place" and almost immediately met Catherine, who was wise, deep, smart and loads of fun. To make a long story short, our "relationship" quickly moved out of the brothel and we were an item for a year. Oh, she continued to work, and we did goofy things: a "bed in" at the brothel a la John and Yoko in 1970; a Christmas party for the girls, where another client, a Hassidic Jew, got to play Santa Claus. Catherine and I went to Santa Fe, Maui and Harrisburg (yes, Harrisburg) together. Then she got into drugs, I couldn't abide that, and we broke up.
I played around a bit in the early 90s, but mostly stayed away from hobbying. Rates at the brothels in NY inched up to around $200. In 97 I left the city, but went back from time to time, and visited the place Patty worked. Finally, in 99, I saw her again. She still worked once in a while. It was quite amazing -- like seeing an old friend -- except now she's a mature, wonderful woman, with a daughter and a husband. The rate is now $300 for an hour.
And now, the Internet: I discovered TER less than a year ago and am delighted at the openness its given the business. Plus the opportunity to meet all of you folks and to spend time with the best folks I've met in all this time - like Sedona, of course!
Thanks for starting an interesting thread.
I began all my fun on the Yahoo personals.. in 99 .. now here I am .. back then I was being proud to get 100 for an hour of fun.. When I decided to stop working all my normal jobs I decided 150 would work.. then when I decided to make Atlanta my number one Incall home.. I was told that I would be put outta the business if I didnt raise my rates to be competitive with the atlanta market(200-300/hour)... I love what I do and I didnt wanna stop so I agreed 200/hour .. anyway .. lots of things have changed.. like remember when wtf is a reference.. lol.. anyway guys it has been real and I hope it continues to stay that way cause man I know im having a blast no matter what the charge .. you cant put a price on good sex lololol..
have fun.. be good and cum lots and lots . deanna
was in 1987 in Atlanta, via an agency that was probably very much like the one you worked for in 1984 (i.e. looked em up in the Yellow Pages). If I remember right, it was $150 for "up to an hour FS". The lady that arrived (this was a hotel outcall) was dropdead gorgeous. I remember some of the sales guys I worked with in Chattanooga at the time telling me the rate up there was less than $100/hr, but I couldn't bring myself to hobby in my hometown that early in my experiences.
Actually, I was telling someone just today that I thought the "hobby scene" hasn't really changed all that much in Atlanta over these 17 years. Certainly, the Internet has made research much easier (anyone else remember when the "alt.sex.providers" Usenet newsgroup was actually passed around by networks of computers using uucp dialup and you had to assemble the pics from multiple messages, uudecode them, and copy them to a PC to view them?) as well as making it easy for indies to get found, cell phones have made semi-anonymous voice communication easier, and extended stay/suite hotels have provided somewhat nicer venues for temporary incall locations.
However, other than price fluctuations (the "typical" FS rate in Atlanta was about to hit $350 in the winter/spring of 2000/2001, and has since fallen back pretty much to $250-$275 range), the basic provider business seems to be about the same to me - sleazy agencies, good agencies, good independents, flaky independents, etc.
Atlanta did lose, and hasn't gotten back yet, the really nice non-Asian spas/massage parlors (i.e. the "good ones", not the rip-off, jack shack places).
If you really want to talk about something not changing, though, consider the cost of table dances - the ultimate inflation buster. Table dances were $10 when I went to my first strip club in 1987 (same trip to Atlanta as first escort encounter) and they're still $10 today.

My first time out was at an AMP in the late 1970s. It was $20 at the door and maybe that again for the lady. In those days, no one even suggested condoms or not cumming in her mouth, and many swallowed.
After a few times there I tried some other MPs, including a non-Asian one ($40 + $40), where the service was the same but the language issue wasn't. At my last trip to the non-Asian MP, a woman I had seen once before warned me that the place was about to close, having been raided, and gave me her number. She was my first independent. That was over 20 years ago and I still see her, though she no longer lives in my city.
Then I began to call agencies when travelling, usually for a "massage." Back in the 80s, there were cities where the total fee was under $100 for service your hotel. In fact, some like Oklahoma City would do you for $100 well into the 1990s. Most were honest, but some did the "I just dance" routine and a few would only offer an HJ. I met some really stunning, mermorable women by calling massager agencies. Normally this meant doing eeny-meenie-minee-moe in the phone book, though occasionally there were local papers that gave a bit more info or even a photo. By this time condoms were becoming necessary and many providers would not do anything bareback.
The internet changed almost everything, letting us actually see the person and now, with TER, letting us know what to expect before we make the call.
