I have it on good authority that the collider did cause a black hole already which has collapsed the universe.
We are now living in an anti-universe which is basically identical to the one we were living in except for the fact that in this universe now, men have to pay women for sex rather than the other way around.
We have all been told that there is only a "very slight chance" that the activation of this super atom smasher will cause a black hole which would obliterate the World in an instant. (Don't worry, it would be painless. We and this World would all simply and painlessly disappear.) I hope their calculations of the cooling function does not reflect their ability to calculate the chances of our disappearance. Oh well, it wouldn't be like the mistakes of those geniuses who have been in control of our financial system: we would never know if these geniuses are wrong.

Next thing you'll tell me is that in this universe the head of a large and old investment bank was paid almost $1/2 billion while running his company into the ground and --after the company collapsed-- was left in charged and walked away with even more money; that the political party in charge of congress for over a decade until a year and a half ago and the White House for the last 8 years during which time there was both a disastrous war based on "faulty intelligence" and the disintegration of our economic system was running neck and neck in a Presidential election by saying they were "agents of change"; that consenting adults are getting hassled by LE for having satisfying sex and exchanging money for it; that the Phillies may win their division title for the second year in a row; and that --in my own field-- physicians are being told they need to see 20 patients every half day to meet their quotas or they will risk their jobs. I am gullible, bit not that gullible.
In fact, there is no chance of a black hole that would obliterate the world. There is a very slight chance of a black hole so small that it would pass right through the earth and off into interstellar space while taking about 1 quadrillionth of an microgram of planetary material with it. But really, a "very slight chance" is vastly overstating the odds here. Basically, if they ran the thing non-stop for the next billion years, you might get a black hole that small.
Remember, it's not like they are throwing around a lot of mass in there - just a few particles - that's it.
Any Higgs Boson produced in a collider would still be very small and exist for microseconds. No "black hole" would be generated because there would not be enough mass to spawn the densities. The world is safe from experimental super accelerator physics. Now if we could only apply the scientific method to our system of governance....
