Could China become more progressive than the US?

Time will tell.

China is a totalitarian state.

As such, it may be wise for them to allow such "bread and circuses" as may be wise to keep people diverted from posing a threat to the power base of the rulers.

While from one angle, it may indeed be progressive; when considered within the context of a regime that censors search engine results; it is merely a way to keep people diverted from other more dangerous things.

In other words, people busy fucking aren't busy figuring out how to bypass pervasive electronic censorship or undermining their ruling elite.

Asia (all of it) is the new America and the corporations are moving jobs and other resources there so commence with the pussy selling. Whenever you hear Wall St. touting China and India as the new "emerging markets" that's a code word for cheap labor.  Welcome to the new old world China. On March 5, 2008; China executed 13 women for the crime of merely entering China. (Remember how tough China's border enforcement is next time you have trouble with those who don't want amnesty for illegals.)

But one might consider ... toward what, exactly, they are making such progress.

Frankly, fraud and drug abuse should be punishable by death: hanging, public electric chairs, lethal injection. I am all for that. Progressive is a lot of things, cowering down to the criminal element is not. We've got enough mother fuckers in jails for shit that doesn't make any sense while rip-off artists rarely get justice. The last I checked, 6 oz of heroin is not simple possession. This guy had bad intentions. Have you ever had to care for a heroin addict trying to get clean?

But that doesn't change the fact that China is far from enlightened when it will imprison, re-educate and kill people -- including women -- for their beliefs and opinions.

It might be "progressive" regarding women -- as a group; but it is quite nasty about any individual woman as a human being.

We agree on what China is for certain. What I'm saying for certain bad actors, namely criminal types, more countries should take their lead. As for the women issue, I have a Chinese friend that escaped with her life because she had four daughters. Believe me, I've heard the horror and the potential to be bad things to these women. However, I draw the line with men or women that are up to no good and are leeches on the rest of us. Call me the hanging judge.
