As I do a lot now, was searching the internet for some new provider to knock my socks off! I was looking at a site, that I've found two great ladies that I regularly see now.

I went to a sister city site and saw a very hot lady. I sent her an introductory email telling her about me and that I wondered if we could maybe meet in the middle which would be about a 1 hour one way trip for us both. I told her I would do a 2 hour appointment etc......

I got a very short email reply for me to contact her  by IM which I had to download this a.m. I've never done the IM but thought she was worth the effort.

After being successful in this we made contact just a bit ago. Her site didn't show rates so I asked her what they were. She gave them with no problem. I also asked if she had any reviews and she replied she had removed them but would put them back up if I wanted her to.  I told her when I wanted to meet and time. She said I would have to wire 50% of the money before she would "book" me. This was a new twist for me and sent a red flag. I told her I had lots of good  references plus date check verified and would prefer to give her all at the encounter but then she went all ballistic on me. Told me it seemed I was sounding as if I wasn't interested and basically told me her rules or no appointment. I told her bye about the same time she told me bye.

So can you guys/gals tell me I did the right thing? I feel like it might have been a scam.

Thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Duckbill8, IMHO, you did the right thing, if you described the situation correctly, which I'm sure you did, your reaction was correct. While some escorts want an advance before a meeting, I for one, will not see a lady who makes that request. I have no problem following an escorts direction on how she wants the envelop before during or after a session. I'm a firm beleiver in going with your "gut feeling" with anything to do with the hobby,and that's exactly what you did.

I think asking for an advance is reasonable if you are asking her to travel.  Now granted a 1 hour drive is not the same as a plane fare, but with gas prices, it is an expense and since you were new to her, not unreasonable depending upon the total cost.  She's giving up at least 2 hours for travel time, and if you no show she'd probably spend another 30 minutes wating to learn that.

I've read like on ebay to avoid the scam of Western Union and then her attidude was very snide. Like, she kept saying if I would book a day, time then we could get to the details. Hell, I'm not paying for any service, hobby or otherwise, until I know all the details. She was just throwing way too many bad vibes plus no reviews.

Well, there's no way to say 100% if either of you was out to scam the other.  Traveling for a first date has an element of risk for her.  Same for you.  
For a first date, I always do the traveling.  Sure, I'm out time (which may be harder to get) and gas money.  But the deposit stays in my pocket til I see the whites of her eyes.  

Does she have a web site?

You say she has no reviews.  Took them down...  NO.    
 
I would not have wired her 50%.  Too much risk.  (Of a rip off.)  NO.  

You might as well sent the money to Nigeria.

as many gentlemen have their rules to see a lady. Many women have their own issues...IE is she meeting you at a hotel...(her out of pocket exspence) many men will no show..And the lady is left with a hotel and a first timer never shows up... So clarify the sitch foirst before a deposit is wired. Not every lady likes reviews for many le reasons. but thats part of all risks on both sides. I have been left with a hotel a few times on gut instinct... sometimes you win somestimes you lose. date-check verified ladies and non agency you are less likely to get burned. but websites and reviews help most of us.
