This afternoon I've been sipping hazelnut-Columbian coffee, catching up on reviews over the last 3 months, and noticed I'd had good luck with a few unreviewed ladies, and was not ripped off lately, thanks largely to TER reviews and contacts.

When and why do you take one for the team, the Apostles that is?
What provokes you to venture where none have gone before, under that name at least?

Personally I start with a very hot pic on Eros, rarely Exotics. If there's no review anywhere, I study the pics and the wording first, and the tel# may be a clue.

If she says I won't be disappointed, then I know I will, and pass. If she's very explicit I pass. Either LE or a dummy.

If the pic looks like it might be a stock photo, I pass.
The Miami Passions, Miami Solid Gold, French Maids, BabyDolls photos of the East Coast are obvious stock photo fraud on a grand scale. The girls don't speak mch English. The pics are SoCal Anglo beach babes. Go figure. How dumb are we gringos?
The very young 9/10 tend to be very poor service providers, too insecure and self centered, too unworldly.

If there's almost no detail and no rate, I pass. They don't give detail when they plan to rip you off. Lots of interesting detail about her life and interests is a good sign.

If she has an e-mail, separate website, or webpage that's usually a good sign too.

If her webpage is full of typos and grammatical mistakes, I pass.
Such as the infamous Florda verb "had went." Or the Texas confusion over pronouns.

If she says she has a collection of handcuffs, I pass.

If her written material is totally shallow and empty, I sigh, and pass, as with major valley girls such as Amber Lynn now on Eros-DC. How do you talk about stuff like that? Duh.

If she's named after a cop or cop cartoon figure - LiaNice or MirandaWright - I run for the hills!

Of course I hang on to the $$ as long as possible at the place while getting the general agenda straight, and sometimes leave because of bait & switch or bad attitude. I'd never see an unknown here on an outcall to my place.

Any other thoughts about avoiding newbie ripoffs?

Search the advertising sites (Eros Guide or whatever) for the same phone number.  If more than one girl is advertised with the same phone number, chances are it's a bait and switch, agency scam, or both.

Also, look closely at the photo.  Yes, the girl in the photo has to look hot, but look beyond the girl at the photo itself.  If the photo is "too professional" that could signal a problem.  If she is new to the business, i.e. doesn't yet have reviews, yet she can afford a professional photographer, something ain't right.  (It could be stock photo of someone else.)  And look at the location of the photo.  If she's advertising in Cincinnati but the photo was taken on an ocean beach, chances are it ain't her.

Another note on reviews.  Beware the "one hit wonder" reviews.  If a girl only has one review, yet that review is too good to be true, it just may be.  Check out who wrote the review.  If the reviewer, and the girl, each only have one review posted, they could be the same person (or someone from the agency).

Your points are good. I have other little tricks to my novitiate judging criteria.

I double-check her advert in different publications over the course of two publishing dates. For example, check the November AND December issue of "Single-R-Us-Wahoo." If there are significant swings in her level of presence -- now ya see her, now ya don't, now ya do again -- I don't call. I need someone who has her shit together enough to get the ad in to the magazine on time.

I never answer ads that say they're looking for "generous gentlmen," ads that suggest in any way the potential of "romance" or any other boy-girl games other than "escorting" or "companionship." Those are tailor-made excuses for the girl when she gets there. If the ad seems like she's already creating excuses for herself NOT to do the deed, don't give her the chance to use those excuses.

Likewise, ads that are TOO explicit are right out, as well. Either it's a police sting, or it's a girl who doesn't know her ass from her elbow about legal matters. Either way I don't want to meet her.

Look carefully at the position of the pose she is in, in her photos. Does she always drape something over her belly? Is she always pictured bending over, or with cleavage front-and-center? Run away, run far far away. If she's a Big Beautiful Woman but is afraid to admit that, then she's not for me, because she's hiding something and is unaware of the market that would make her a desired rather than a reviled commodity if only she'd be honest.

If she arrives but doesn't look like the girl in the picture ...

If she arrives and seems to be too nervous or skittish ...

If she arrives HOURS after the appointed time, well after you've cancelled with her ...

If she arrives and asks to take her money out to her driver and she'll "be right back, honest" ...

If she arrives in a ridiculously unkempt outfit ...

If she arrives and pounds on the door excessively, waking the neighbors, rather than dialing you up from her cellular phone ...

If she stinks of alcohol (yes, been there) ...

If she seems "not right" or aggressive or starts making deals (cf. "The Sopranos" when Artie had to try to shake down a guy for borrowed money not paid back, and failed miserably because he LISTENED TO REASONING about why it shouldn't be paid back -- check Anthony's advice, "Don't let these people start making excuses") ...

... if any of the above, then send her politely on her way. If she's arrogant or negative, offer $10 as "traveling money" or "for your trouble." No more. If she insists on $20, tell her to fuck off, in those exact words.

All of these suggestions, including yours are great. But, I have to confess... I'm always terribly nervous when I first meet someone. & it has led to confusion on both sides. Luckily, it worked out. & now is funny. But, sometimes we're just as nervous as you are.

& here are my thought's for newbies. I'm using myself as an example.

I look exactly like my pictures, but w/a bonus...... I arrive w/a head instead of a blur. You never know who might be looking at your site, & yes I have gotten e-mails from folks I knew outside of fantasyland.

I don't have any reviews that I know of. But, I have several reasons for requesting no-reviews. Privacy, it's no ones business. Do a search on my name, & read my posts. You'll see that I never cause altercations. & they should give you an idea of my personality. I also live in an area that has extremely literate LE. & they even have a dept. designated w/the sole purpose of watching the internet for hardened criminals such as myself. So, I generally think to myself... would I want 'x' to read/hear/see that at my arraignment.

So, probably the best thing for newbies is to do their homework. & it's the good kind! "If it sounds to good to be true....."

Same here!! The vice sergeants have been known to show the girls their first review while they're in cuffs~targets of online sting operations because of TER reviews!!
My suggestion is to "left click" onto the picture on the eros ads and check the properties of the pictures. You'll find information there like how many name changes there are and if the pictures have come from another source you may see several different ads have similar codes such as maybe two similar letters "ra" for example coded prior to the names.
Or, you can be lazy and go to NaughtyEscort. The webmaster there doesn't let gameplayers advertise.

Okay, those are some good things to watch out for.
But some were a little out of line. LOL
Basically, you just have to be careful. And like Lisa just said, some woman don't want reviews. We 2 have 2 be careful.
It all comes down to basic common sense.

Make sure that the girl you call is the girl that comes in. Dont settle for that crap where some girl with a hot voice says, well, so and so is not here but I can come!! Hold on to your penis and say NO!  

Ask if she has a flat fee and what it is before she comes. If she does not have a flat fee then she may talk you out of your wallet.

Do not hand a girl the money who is going to take it to "her man" and come back.

MAke sure that she does not share her phone number with a bunch of others.

What I slightly disagree with is:

A girl could have professional pics and taken out of her home town because she desires the work of someone who is a "professional"

A girl may leave town for a while and return. That doesnt mean she is bad either sometimes.

I am leaving town for 8 weeks. To London and Switzerland. I plan to see numerous photographers to get "very nice professional" pics done. And I have a great reputation in Phoenix where I work. The pics I have up are not that great although they are professional so I want better ones.

All of us vacation sometimes and have to leave for a while and come back. So, you may see us for a while then we are gone and back again. Not always should that mean that we are scammers.

But it all comes down to, boys and girls, just be wise and careful when you want to play because there are some dirty bad people out there.

All of the above are very helpful for those of us who are new to "The Hobby".  Keep them coming.

There is a provider advertising in the DC area for a long time that always intrigued me, but had no posted reviews on any boards I know.  The 411 I received on the DC board was sketchy, but honest about not having direct knowledge of the provider.  Curiosity got the best of me and I booked a dinner date.  She now has a TER review that is unfavorable.  I wrote it.  

The lesson:  Do your homework, unless you like being ripped off or left unhappy with your experience.
