Philly boys and girls should be paying 88 cents a gallon for gas if not less.. Isn't there a refinery in Philly.. cant ya just go cypher some out in the middle of the night ? Be like a South African digging up copper phone wire and selling it
Folks think the oil prices are (pardon the pun) rigged but I think they are probably one of the best examples of a free market economy.
Ask yourself when was the last time your doctor lowered his rates? Your lawyer? Your auto mechanic? When was the last time your favorite restaurant dropped their prices (not specials, what they actually put on the menu)? How about the person who does your hair?
Gasoline prices may go up but they also go down. America may be the biggest consumer bit they don't have the clout to actually control the prices. Even OPEC doesn't have total control. Outside factors like wars, hurricanes and harsh winters affect the price amd supply.
Also, don't get mad at your local gas station. They normally don't make much money at all on the gasoline sold. They want their gas at a competitive price so you'll come in and buy all the overpriced junk food and other goodies inside their store. That's where they make their profit. The price of the gas is just to get you to stop and buy other junk.
The days of 29-cent gasoline are probably history forever but - as some point out - people pay more for a gallon of bottled water than they do a gallon of gasoline and don't do nearly the bitching about it either.
And here I thought the laws of supply, demand and a little luck and conservation meant something. Of course not after all, thanks for schooling us that it's American election time!
In fact, the White House also decided not to create any hurricanes or earthquakes this year for the same reason.
You'd think Texas or the gulf coast would be cheaper since that's where it comes in and is refined. I'm sure CRUDE OIL prices depend on free market forces but not the prices for gasoline, diesel, and other refined fuels. The refining industry controls the supply of fuel they refine. Also our gas taxes are surprisingly low compared to other nations. Those funds pay for roads and bridges and stuff.
Check your lowest gas prices: I saw around $2 in Houston today.
And I'm going to buy 10,000 gallons before the election! 'Cuz it'll be over $4.00 per gallon by February... REGUARDLESS of which party wins the election!
