I think the main server is down, offline, or even "throttled". I can get into their public message are (located on a seperate sever) without problems.

It looks like the servers have either been disconnected or are turned off, since they don't respond to a ping.

Most high traffic servers have ping (plus traceroute)disabled. It prevents certain types of bandwidth attacks.

Try pinging/tracerouting CNN or Weather Channel.
