I have successfully used MasterCard Gift Cards to anonymously renew TER.  These are not rechargeable cards like Green Dot, but cards that have a fixed credit value, e.g., $50.  The ones I use require online registration to use for electronic/internet purchases, but they do not require an SSN.  Just register with an alias, being sure to record the details of your registration and the particulars of the card (issuing bank, etc.).  I just copy the entire online registration transaction of screen scrapes into a Word file for later reference and then store inside a TrueCrypt encrypted volume).  Then I just go to TER's online renewal and enter in the appropriate (alias) information from the MasterCard registration reference into the CCBill form and submit.  Works beautifully.  You just have to make sure that your purchase details match your card registration details exactly.  On one occasion I had to wait a few hours before the card registration took hold to get a successful billing response from CCBill.  Otherwise, no problems.

The MasterCard gift cards that have worked for me require you to register at chooseyourowngift.com, which redirects elsewhere, but you can look for that URL on the packaging for the card.  I've found the most convenient thing is the $50 gift card denomination which translates to a 90 day non-recurring membership.  Hope this helps.

I'm still looking for the foolproof anonymous way to pay for VIP. I was looking at various prepaid cards on the racks at the local drug stores, etc.

Per usual, the regular Green Dot and other prepaid Visa/MC cards require activation with a SSN and other info, so that's out.

There were various Visa/MC GIFT CARDS that can't be used for overseas and some other transactions. (TER payments are non-US.)

Next to all of these specialty Visa and MCs there were rows and rows of vendor specific GIFT CARDS: Best Buy, Red Lobster, iTunes, ... food, clothing, electronics, books, entertainment. Did someone say Entertainment?

THERE SHOULD BE TER GIFT CARDS!  Buy for cash + $4.95 activation fee and use it to pay for VIP on-line or mail the card itself directly to TER in Europe.

Maybe WalMart won't sell TER Gift Cards but they don't sell Best Buy GCs either. Maybe it would work in specialty, adult oriented or other controlled access cash and carry stores. Maybe providers could sell them for cash on a commission basis?

Just a suggestion.

I don't know how many times I have to say this.
Tried on the newbie, and here, but people dont get it.

There are many cards out there you can use to purchase a membership here anonymously. Go to Walgreens and get a vanillavisa (vanillavisa.com). It's not difficult.

I've registered my card as Cher, Cinderalla and many more. These cards work here as well as several other places.

Just give it a try.

TER is very anonymous friendly. You just have to put a little effort into picking up a gift/debit card that clearly says on the back of the card that you can use it for online purchases.

Check out:
vanillavisa.com
gift2go.net

AND MANY MANY MORE!

Peace out.

I was making a humorous suggestion about TER arranging for a brick and mortar retail-available TER Gift Card through some giant financial institution. I wonder what the logo would be? The (e) symbol? A pretty girl? The US Constitution / Bill of Rights? I digress. But I've looked at many real prepaid cards.

All of the vanillavisa gift cards I looked at said US transactions only. Despite your assurances, I'm nervous about that. FastCard Visas: US only. I did recently find a gift2go card (IDT Financial Services) that says ~anyplace worldwide where Visa is accepted. I'll check out the fine print on-line to see if it needs a SSN or other non-spoofable info.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Per others suggestions, I went to gift2go.net and bought a card with a balance of $50.  I tried to pay for VIP membership with it and an error came up saying it was declined by the bank issuing the card (IDT finacial services).  I entered the exact same information per the registration process that is required by gift2go.net for online purchases.  So,  it seems like this works for some and not others.
