a method to see if someone is currently logged into TER? This seems like such an easy call. Of course we would have to know their full correct handle. Also maybe little neon flashing signs next to their handles that say "The John is In" (just kidding) but some approach similar to this... flashing icon or different colors..something!
I like the idea of instant messaging. If you do this however, please allow each alias to be set up as available to that service or not as there are times when someone may not welcome chat.
